R.I.P. Patrick Swayze

By John - September 14, 2009 - 17:25 America/Montreal

He has been a favorite of ours around The Movie Blog for years. He’s been in some of the coolest films and his personality and persona became an image unto itself. He was talented, strong, respected and had more class in his little finger than most “movie stars” today can even conceive of.

Patrick Swayze has lost his brave battle with cancer today at 57 years old. The world is less for it.

I think after the ball game is over tonight I’m going to pop in some Point Break. Ride that wave Patrick… ride that wave.

    he will be missed

    • Steven says:

      Indeed he will.

He’s actually very lucky to have even lived this long after being diagnosed, pancreatic cancer kills very quickly.

  2. Slushie Man says:

I think I’ll watch some Ghost, or a little unknown movie that I love called Along For the Ride.

Or if I want a more manly movie, perhaps I’ll stick in Black Dog.

  3. krazie835 says:

Swayze was a great actor in my opinion, it’s sad that he didn’t win his battle with Cancer.

I’ll miss seeing the man’s work.

I always liked Black Dog, it’s not his best work, but Swayze makes that movie so much better than what it really is.

  4. The Other James Taylor says:

Roadhouse and Red Dawn in mine tonight. Last Call Dalton, last call.

  5. Evan says:

Awful news. But he was in a lot of pain and hopefully he has found peace and relief.

  6. JAMES (Hazmat) says:

    NO!!!!!

    • JAMES (Hazmat) says:

He still makes me cry every time i watch Ghost.

      Everytime.

      Especially that penny scene

      • Ty says:

        I know what you mean.

      • Harsh says:

You’re SO right :-S I miss the man, already :-S There were rumors they wanted to make a Point Break 2, right?

I loved Road House, I caught it on tv only a few months ago, but I was hooked-I know it wasn’t one of his super big hits, but that character, Dalton, was simply brilliantly portrayed…..

Walk, keep on walking, Mr. Swayze, walk, keep on walking…..

  7. Amish Bill says:

Horrible year for celebrity deaths. It needs to stop.

  8. Cinema Phreak says:

I gotta say point break road house and red dawn were my favorite of the swayze catalog..

  9. DON says:

    Rest in peace.

Yeah this has been a bad year. RIP Patrick Swayze and I’m still in shock..

  15. Valis says:

God Bless you Swayze. I’m going to watch Point Break.

  16. Methos84 says:

It was only a matter of time, sadly. Recently I bought “The Beast” on DVD but haven’t had time to watch it. Looks like I’ll be making time tonight in honor of Swayze.

  17. BobaFett says:

It’s sad to me that Patrick didn’t get the kudos as a performer while he was alive…he will be missed, and 10 ,20 30 years down the line, he’ll be missed even more…Godspeed Mr Swayze…

  18. Jeremy K. says:

Yep, this sucks. Just read the other day that The Beast had been canceled a while back due to his condition getting worse. With so many accomplishments and an amazing performance in the Beast… he will be missed. He was even awesome in one of my favorite movies, Donnie Darko, though a bit creepy at the same time.

  19. adam says:

Road House for ever …..RIP mr Swayze

  20. Justin says:

To most people he’ll be remembered for Dirty Dancing but for me he’ll always be the guy Donnie Darko called “The Fucking Anti-Christ” Jim Cunningham.

  21. evan says:

    A Legend

  22. Rare Addict says:

You will be sorely missed, Patrick Swayze. Rest in peace.

  23. Laura's Reviews says:

My husband loved him best in Donnie Darko, but I’ll never forget him as Orry Main in the 1980’s mini-series North & South. He was a fantastic actor!

  24. robertwolf says:

    This is terrible news :(

Ghost was the first Swayze film I saw and to this day, I still love it, it’s timeless. Dirty Dancing was also another flick I grew up with. That film thought us men that we could be romantic dancers, but still be badass to the bone. In recent years I saw Roadhouse, which is so bad, it’s good. No one can quite rip someones trout out like Mr Swayze. Another is Point Break, which is properly my favourite Swayze film behind Ghost.

I’m going to miss Swayze, but he will not be forgotten, as his talent will remain with me through his awesome roles.

  25. Darren J Seeley says:

While I liked most of the films he had been in- even guilty as charged pleasures like Roadhouse and Steel Dawn- I always had this 100% like factor for Dirty Dancing, the ending of that film had me cheering and then weeping like a girl.

The odd thing is that when I first heard of his passing on the tube, the station cut to a commercial regarding a tropical vacation resort of some kind whose ad theme was “I’ve Had The Time Of My Life’

  26. Anti-Septic says:

RIP Mr. Swayze, God Bless you on your journey.

  27. Travis says:

It’s Ghost tonight. That may seem harsh to me, but You know how it is. R.I.P. Patrick Swayze…

  28. Trae says:

    R.I.P Swayze
This is not a good year, I would have never seen any of these passing coming. I’m just happy he is not in pain anymore.

  29. Pedro says:

    RIP, Swayze, you’ve earned it.

  30. Ranting Man says:

Gone but not forgotten. Rest in Peace Swayze!

  31. Dragonslayer says:

I learned last night…I couldn’t believe it. He was a god among gods. He will be missed…but never forgotten.

  32. Andrew says:

Well, there’s no better reason for me to stick in my copy of Red Dawn when I get home from school today. May the man rest in peace, and hope his family is well.

  33. bigsampson says:

MAN THIS IS SOME SERIOUSLY BAD NEWS…..patrick was pure awesomeness and i had the chance to randomly meet him at the airport….he was super super nice and this was around 94 or so……RIP and may generations see your wonderful work for future generations.

  34. Erick says:

swayze was awesome in donnie darko.

  35. Phil Gee says:

Damn shame; goodbye Mr Swayze. You were genuinely awesome.

  36. Roman says:

Hopefully he and Chris Farley are with Dwayn Zeckemore in that Chippendale Club in the sky.

  37. kc says:

    WOLVERINES!

  38. Obnoxious Johnny says:

Do you think he’s just getting into character for the Ghost sequel?

  39. Vito says:

    Hmmm…

I had replied to a post that has mysteriously disappeared from the board.
