Disney Announces Zemeckis will make Yellow Submarine in 3D

By Rodney - September 11, 2009 - 11:54 America/Montreal

Disney’s D23 Expo is happening as I type this and just moments ago, on their live Twitter feed, it was announced that Disney will be taking the Beatles Yellow Submarine to the 3D platform.

Disney Pictures announces via their Twitter:

“It is true we will be making a 3D version of The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine with Robert Zemeckis.”

I wonder if they mean that it will be a remake of the classic animated drug trip with 3D tech, or are they simply taking the original and making it 3D?

More as it comes out.

All this 3D reminds me of Back to the Future (…2? I don’t remember) when Michael J. Fox is almost eaten by the 3D Jaws.

  2. Meli says:

The article I read at the hollywood reported said that Robert Zemeckis wants to remake the movie using 3D motion capture ala all this other movies as of late.

To this project I say BOO! I like my copy of The Yellow Submarine as is, no updates needed!

    this just seems dumb

I have done a little research, and apparently this is going to be a remake. The Beatles have always been my religion since I was 5 years old and I saw them on The Ed Sullivan show. If this goes through, I am calling on all Beatlemaniacs to declare a Jihad against Zemekis.

    • Rodney says:

Even a remake would still have the Beatles music. I don’t see any reason to get THAT upset over it.

My concern is that they would change the zany trippy feel of the movie. Aside from that, the music would still rock.

      • Tim says:

Yeah, but who would be your motion capture models for the fucking Beatles. I’m totally into the Rock Band game and the remasters, but this is turning into Beatlspoitation.

    groovy man.

  6. herby says:

That zany trippy feel created by Peter Max can not be replaced. Yes the music will still rock. I have a nice stereo system to listen to it, the film is Iconic and I (remember film is subjective) do not believe anyone should touch this Icon.

    It’s Beatlemania all over again!

    • Herby says:

      No it’s not!!

Every few years the Beatles come back in fashion because, let’s face it. They are the best freaking rock and roll band ever.

This time around you have the re-mastered discs and the Rock Band game (which I am curious about). However Zemekis should remember his film history, namely the film “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” which destroyed the career of Robert Stigwood as well as The Bee Gees and Peter Framton (Although Framton Comes Alive started that slide). There is NO WAY Disney will be able to capture the spirit of the time or the beauty of Peter Max’s art.

To Paraphrase John Lennon: I DON’T BELIEVE IN ZEMEKIS.

  8. Alan Taffel says:

    Can’t wait!

BRING ME THE HEAD OF ROBERT ZEMEKIS
