David Goyer in Talks for Ghost Rider Sequel

By Rodney - September 24, 2009 - 11:00 America/Montreal

Ghost Rider is the spirit of Vengence, so when the first film was so terrible it only makes karmic sense that they make a sequel to make up for past wrongs. Someone has to pay. And part of that payment might come from David Goyer who is in talks to put pen to a sequel.

Dark Horizons says:

David Goyer is in early talks to create a story and supervise a script for a sequel to “Ghost Rider” for Sony Pictures

Plans are under way to base the sequel on a script written years ago by “Blade” and “Batman Begins” writer Goyer. There is no word on whether Goyer himself will direct.

I was never a Ghost Rider fan. I think the character is pretty two dimensional. But when I heard Cage was going to play Johnny Blaze, and Eva Mendez would be his love interest I was curious.

But not even Mendez strutting in a slinky dress could save that film.

Maybe they will learn from their mistakes and make a Ghost Rider worth watching.

I actually didn’t mind the first Ghost Rider. It was a bad movie…but it was awesome at times. Nick Cage wasn’t that bad in the film either, neither was Sam Elliot.

I’m interested in seeing another Ghost Rider movie.

  2. War-Journalist says:

At first I thought it was an okay movie. Then I watched it again and almost threw up. They turned Blaze into a pussy and Ghost Rider into a frat boy. Get it right this time! I have faith in Goyer, but I have my doubts.

    • AARON says:

I agree, at first it was ok, I saw some of it again and it was bad. Goyer, listen to me man, write this one don’t direct.

I liked the first one It could have been better but it was ok.

  4. Lowell says:

Nick Cage was and is way to old for Ghost Rider get a new Rider and it might just work.

  5. Kaneda979 says:

Ya, the first one was ok. I wouldn’t mind seeing a 2nd one, if they can make it better then the first. The Ghost Rider story to me does have allot of potential to be bad ass. While I know Fox isn’t known for sicking with source material, some of the stories from the comics are pretty damn cool.

But weather they go with more source material or not, if anyone can make a Ghost Rider movie more then just watchable, it’s David Goyer. Sure he blows monkey chunks as a director, but as a dark comic book movie writer, he’s pretty damn awesome.

Lets just hope he gets the gig.

  6. SlashBeast says:

My God, the first one was so terrible I wanted to gouge my eyes out.

Goyer is hit and miss, but it really wouldn’t take much to be better than the first.

  7. Darren J Seeley says:

I thought that they were contacting Goyer to use, at least in part, his 2001 draft. There was many criticisms of those early drafts, but updated into a sequel, the majority of those ‘problems’ solve themselves.

If the Goyer 90/91 work is used as a springboard, then aside from Blaze, Roxanne and Mephisto also return, and it is in line for the “movie villain” apart from the comics, although that character would be like a combination of Marvel Scarecrow and The Swarm, only instead of bees its locusts/flesh eating insects.

  8. leeloo says:

if they gave ghost rider a creaky old rusty bicycle id be really amped for this.

  9. tony says:

Once again I have to disagree with your review. Personally I liked the film. I thought it started slow but found its groove. Thought the rider’s powers were done very well. Never been a Peter Fonda fan but i thought even he filled his part well(mostly).

    • Jake says:

Allow me to disagree. I liked how they built some of the subplots, but the pace itself is terrible. And partly as a result of that, so is the action.

  10. Snake Eyes says:

Can this be the Incredible Hulk to the first Hulk film that most fans hated? I was never a big Ghost Rider fan either, so I went in to watch the first one with low expectations and had a pretty good time because it was so unintentionally funny!

  11. Shane Hero says:

I didn’t think Ghost Rider was terrible. It was what it was. I wouldn’t mind a sequel that follows on from the first one.

If they’re going to do a reboot, I’d like to see ‘The Spirit Of Vengeance’ actually out for some real revenge. I could see Ghost Rider making a very cool ‘revenge film’ like The Crow or The Punisher, where Ghost Rider sets about vengeance on some truly despicable characters. It would work well if GR was the only supernatural character in the film.

  12. Governor says:

Hey! Ghost Rider was the funniest movie of 2007!
