The Most Uninteresting Weekend

By John - August 28, 2009 - 13:03 America/Montreal

Hey, all film is subjective and I’m sure there are more than a couple of you out there who are really excited by 1 or more of the films opening up this weekend… but for me… I can’t remember the last time there was a weekend with more than 1 or 2 major releases coming out that I’ve been more disinterested in than this one.

Halloween 2
The Final Destination
Talking Woodstock

I love Ang Lee, and I like the comedy of Dmitri Martin… but there is something about their “Woodstock” project that just makes me want to nap whenever I see a trailer for it. Halloween was horrible and I’ve liked nothing from Rob Zombie yet… and do I really need to say anything about “The Final Destination”?

Oh well… one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

John, while one man’s trash is another’s treasure. There is neither trash nor treasure, this weekend. Just blatantly horrible SHIT

I wasn’t crazy about zombies halloween. love the first half but hate his greatest hits remake in the second half. but i looooovvvveee devils rejects more then I can put into words and house of 1000 corpses is great too so I will give H2 a shot. The final destination looks like a lot of fun but taking woodstock looks a little off to me for some reason. The subject matter is right up my alley but the trailer just isn’t doing it for me

  4. Andrew says:

Bleh, I agree that Halloween is crap and so is Rob Zombie.
I’m sick and tired of all these Final Destination movies, they keep churning out sequels to squeeze it for more money. It’s the same with most horror movies.
Taking Woodstock looks decent but nothing spectacular.

I’m REALLY looking forward to “9″ in a couple weeks though!!!

  5. Matt Keith says:

    Hey John,

Did you hear that Zombie wants to remake(ruin) “The Blob”.

    • Jeremy K. says:

Beat me to it! I hope he goes through with this project, as I am very curious to see what Zombie’s The Blob would be like. At one time I heard he was supposed to be remaking CHUD as well, and nothing has come of that. I remember watching the old black and white The Blog with my dad back in the day.

    • Darren J Seeley says:

Matt, ‘ruin’ is a strong word to toss around since The Blob had a remake in 1988. It wasn’t half bad, either.

      • Matt Keith says:

I found the remake to be better than the original, but if you read what Zombie is planning then you’ll see why it will be ruined.

      • Jeremy K. says:

I like his plans. If I want to see the original retold, I might as well watch the original. That’s one thing I really like about Zombie’s Halloween, he took something and made it his own rather than trying to copy what already exists.

    hippies rock.

  7. Phil Gee says:

We have a much better choice in the UK this week. The Hurt Locker or Funny People.

    I choose The Hurt Locker.

  8. Darren J Seeley says:

Not surprisingly, John, you had another post recently about the box office bombs of the summer. Given the idea that a number of them were under promoted, I wonder if Talking Woodstock might join them.

I suspect Zombie’s Halloween will be the biggest opener of the three; that may sound promising to some, but I don’t think that will crack 15 million (there usually is a box office slowdown around this time; we are fresh out of big films for now)…I also don’t think it’ll open #1. Inglourious Basterds will remain, a holdover from last week.

But here’s why:. Two sequel-ed horror films in the same weekend. They will fight tooth and nail for the same demographic of audience. Genre fans will have a tough call to make. My own anticipation for either film isn’t high on a list. I did not care much for the previous Halloween. I think Final Destination has run out of steam, even if I liked the second one. It’s a gimmick film series now.

So it’s a good weekend- to catch up on the films from last weekend.

  9. robertwolf says:

Are you not getting Big Fan or The Mystery Team?

  10. TDot says:

Maybe it’s just me, but the Final Destination films are good times. They always have a cool disaster scenes to open, followed by creative ways to kill people.

Always fun to see the nutty way people get knocked off in those movies, I would go as far as to say they are horrorcoms.

And this one is in 3D, which are fun in and of themselves. All week my friends and I have been looking forward to some hidden beers in my backpack, hot buttery popcorn and 3D deaths.

    need “I” say more?

    • Matt Keith says:

My problem with the Final Destination sequels is that they are the same movie. If you’ve seen the first film, you’ve seen all of them.

    • Darren J Seeley says:

“And this one is in 3D, which are fun in and of themselves”

Yet, despite being heaps of horror fun better than the original, most of the masses avoided “My Bloody Valentine” earlier this year, also in 3-D.

Call me a skeptic on FD.

  11. David Lopan says:

Not saying the movies this weekend are great. But what was more uninteresting to me were the weekends of transformers 2 and harry potter.

  12. Larry says:

Halloween 2 was one of the best surprises of the summer for me. The Hangover was probably the only movie more fun and satisfying.

  13. Matt S says:

I wanna see “Taking Woodstock” actually. I like movies about the 60’s and it should have some awesome tunes. Plus, hippies get a bad rap I think, I like hippies. At Keats they’re friendly.

  14. Aaron N. says:

Yeah, Taking Woodstock or whatever is going to have the same stupid effect as Across the Universe.

Great, more indie hipsters to roam around my university talking about how the 60s and 70s rule, yet when I mention Iggy Pop, they draw a blank.

  15. Darek-T says:

I think the only reason I’d want to see Halloween 2 is just to see Weird Al

  16. Snacks says:

Halloween suck balls they should never gave rob the Halloween movies.

  17. Calvina. M. says:

    This movie was soooo baaaadddd!!!!
They completely destroyed the Micheal Myers character!!! They had Micheal grunting, running, making noises, killing randomly, and there was no real purpose to this movie!!!!

Also, if i see Micheal Myers sister cry one more time!!!!!

  18. entertainmenttodayandbeyond says:

Halloween 2 is the Most vile piece of garbage Ive ever seen. 0-out of 10 and a total BOMB- Repulsive

    Please no more Rob Zombie

    chuck

  19. Aaron says:

    Horrible weekend.

  20. J.P. says:

screw the films/junk opening this weekend

I HAVE TO go see Inglourious Basterds again. Can’t get that film out of my head.
