Law Abiding Citizen - Best Trailer Of The Year

By John - August 26, 2009 - 15:13 America/Montreal

The movie “Law Abiding Citizen” has flown under the radar for a lot of people… including me for the most part other than knowing about it’s existence and basic plot. But a few days ago I, like most people, had the chance to watch the trailer, and I was absolutely floored by it. In my opinion the best trailer of the year by a mile.

You’ve seen it already… but check it out again. How bad ass does this movie look?

i like this trailer, Gerard Butler’s character is sooo badass lol, however, Jamie Foxx looks out of place, kinda a miss cast for me.

  2. alfie says:

I wish it wasn’t butler in the lead. He is not a very good actor.

  3. Salbert says:

Damn, trailer ruled. Lets hope the movie brings the goods.

  4. NoLa says:

    My jaw is hanging open.

  5. Will says:

Nice to see the trailer up. Easily the best kept secret in my opinion for upcoming movies.

  6. Vidsub says:

I saw this when I saw district 9. I didnt think it looked like anything special.

  7. JAlexM says:

    I’m cheering for Gerard!!!!!!!!

  8. mikecan2 says:

I loved this trailer but people in the theatre laughed when it played and I was pissed

  9. Haole says:

It was awesome, but I have to say best trailer of the year goes to Serious Man by the Coens. Beautifully built tension and reminded me of the bulbous buffount skit that Dr. Demento would play.

  10. David Lopan says:

I think butler is a good actor, he was awesome in rocknrolla and 300, I was bummed he kept getting shit roles like the ugly truth, ps I love you, and gamer…but when I saw this, I excited. I think he’ll make an excellent bad guy.

  11. AARON says:

Looks awesome, but I don’t think the best of the year, trailer wise.

    • JAMES (hazmat) says:

      Watchmen
      Transformers 2 trailer was orgasmic
      Wolverine (IMO)
      Star Trek
      Ninja Assasin
      Sherlock Holmes
      9!!!!!!!
      Wolfman

Those trailers where better. Especially 9.
But thats my opinion. I dont think he meant it literally xD

  12. probitionate says:

At first glance at this story…I thought the photo was of John.

    LOL

And although I’d seen the trailer weeks ago, when I viewed it this time, I kept seeing John starring in it.

(Biggest difference? The ‘John’ version would be almost all dialogue. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

  13. krazie835 says:

Kind of wondering when Butler would be able to capitalize one his success with 300.

  14. EZELL says:

I honestly think it looks like shit.

It combines the film Death Sentence and Saw into 1 film….F THAT

    • Josh Brunsting says:

I agree with EZEll 100%. Sorry, but this trailer does nothing for me. I’ve seen better *cough* Where The Wild Things Are *cough*

      • Keith says:

I was laughing soo hard when I saw the Where the Wild things Are trailer hahahha that movie looks like shit, ….but this trailer looks really good

      • Josh Brunsting says:

The trailer for A Serious Man is a better trailer as well

      • Matt S says:

Josh, you’re spot on. “Wild Things” and “Serious Man” are both fantastic, this trailer is good, but nothing too special (to me, at least).

Keith, I may be wrong, but I’m going to take a wild guess and say that you aren’t familiar with the “Wild Things” book. Who knows, but I honestly can’t see how a person who grew up with the book can think the film looks any less than amazing. Then again, anything’s possible.

    • Jack Rhien says:

I was wondering when someone was gonna make that comparison. I honestly that this film looked absolutely stupid. I will admit though it still looked better than Legion.

      • Josh Brunsting says:

Actually, I may go as far as to say I think Legion looks more badass than this. It’s at least a far more interesting project.

  15. EZELL says:

Its funny how in the last month I have not agreed with John on almost anything I normally do.LOL

  16. Jeremy says:

I like a movie where you can almost empathize with the villain. Looks great.

  17. Steve L. says:

Great trailer. It left me with the same feeling I had after I had seen the “Taken” trailer for the first time. Let’s hope this one is just as good.

    • Matt S says:

I honestly didn’t find “Taken” to be very good at all. I may be the only one, as everyone in my family and circle of friends just rave about it. I did think Taken’s trailer was very good though.

  18. Charles says:

    This is good?

Isn’t this just a Hollywood movie? I mean, I can tell you how it ends.

  19. Zuke says:

Looks interesting for sure, but I hope it’s not a Saw-like gruesomefest.

p.s. If our spooks are this good, why can’t we send one of these bad-asses to go find Bin Laden!?!?

  20. alfie says:

in this still butler does look a lot like campea haha
    just less manly

  21. DON says:

This is kinda like TAKEN trailer. Very Badass. But at boxoffice it won’t be the smash hit that taken was.

  22. obi-wan kubrick says:

This looks incredible and it has Colm Meany in it! Chief O’Brien is always in awesome movies.

  23. Nick says:

beautiful shot at the end w/ the fire

the movie looks like it could be pretty good

  24. theRZA says:

this looks pretty rad and butler is the man, but damn do i dislike foxx. he is waay to hard to take seriously.

  25. Brendan says:

It’s a good trailer- but not the best. It is a good trailer but it does not separate this movie from any of the other recent kidnap/revenge flick like Taken or Hostage apart from that this one might have better editing.

IMO the best trailer this year is Where the Wild Things Are. Great music, great visuals and it was something that made me sit up in my seat in anticipation and by the end made me want to line up to see it.

This one made me want to rent the film… eventually.

    • Josh Brunsting says:

This trailer made me want to, at most, watch this thing sometime when I mistakenly put it at the top of my Netflix queue. That’s about it.

  26. Rhcp173 says:

Foxx just doesn’t seem interested in his character at all. I mean he can be good, I thought he was perfect in Collateral, but man does he look bored and amateurish in this.

Plot seems decent but nothing groundbreaking, kinda reminds me of in TDK when the Joker had people running shit even when he was in prison/got captured on purpose.

  27. Danny K. says:

Wow! Thanks for introducing me to this, I had never heard of the film before this article. The premise is great and Butler looks good, I just hope it doesn’t fall apart at the end. High hopes, though.

  28. Thos says:

Looks good. Nice to see Colm Meaney back on the big screen.

  29. Zach says:

they do impress with trailers nowadays heh

  30. JAMES (hazmat) says:

I think its getting a little old…the whole

“One guy takes down the whole government” thing
It was cool in Bourne but…thats enough. The movie does look really good though

  31. Mike Mai says:

i love movies like this. revenge!!!

  32. Vito says:

I hate Jamie Foxx way too much to be that excited by this.

Also, I like Gerard Butler, but I think he sucks at American accents.

    Otherwise, it looks good.

  33. xaviar says:

I don’t belive that was the best trailer of the year. Personally I think the trailer for “A Serious Man” Was far better. Also this movie looks really average.

  34. Lars2123 says:

hu? it’s the most generic standard revenge story.
anyway, although i just said it myself (but just because i know you just care for it), why do people when they say “best trailer” don’t look at the trailer but at the content?
something makes a trailer the “best trailer” if.. well, it was made the best way (awesome editing, sound design and so on), not if the content of the movie looks cool.

  35. Tiglet says:

looks fucking amazing to me. I’ll be keeping my eye on this soab

  36. Slow Kevin says:

If you think this is the best trailer of the year, then that says all I need to know about your complete lack of taste.

  37. Jason Angel says:

    wow, this trailer loox badass!
even the trailer has a twist
and further proof Gerard Butler is 1 of the best actors working today

  38. Aaron Ker says:

That movie looks awesome. It is not an original idea, but are there any of those left?

  39. JP says:

Looks like it has a lot of potential. Definitely looks entertaining. Excited for it’s release.

  40. Antonio says:

Trailer reminds me of the first time I saw the trailer for Taken. Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint.

  41. Kokushi says:

Good trailer but imo Where the Wild Things Are (first trailer), (500) Days of Summer (teaser), The Hurt Locker, Moon, Inception (teaser) were better.

  42. Kristina says:

I saw this before District 9 and the whole theater was buzzing afterwards. Looks like it could be really good.

But what has happened to Gerry’s face?? He looks like a chipmunk now.

  43. jaffahut says:

Haha, who was that one actor again? Standing behind Butler in the last shot, always playing an asshole? Love that guy…

  44. Josh Brunsting says:

Oh, ANOTHER trailer that is better, Gentlemen Broncos. The Inception Teaser, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Last Airbender, Shutter Island, 9, The Road, Nine, Tetro, The Girlfriend Experience, Moon, all just to name a few.

  45. SlashBeast says:

    “Badass” meaning “nothing else noteworthy”?

Definitely not the best of the year.

  46. Stain95 says:

It could be a very good movie, but I fear It will be just a long MTV spot…You know, a guy walking out the scene, a HUGE explosion behind his back, he doesn’t even blink…badass lines and that stuff..little naive and shallow..hope I’m wrong ;)
btw, somebody mentioned before, and I agree, Jamie Foxx really looks aou of place, A LOT!

  47. John Falvey says:

I literally laughed my ass off when I saw this trailer.

    “I’m going to kill everyone.”

Does that entail himself as well? And Jamie Foxx looks foolish. I’ve gotta completely disagree on this one, totally ridiculous trailer that does not at all wet my appetite for this flick.

  48. Shadess says:

Never heard of this before…but damn that looks nice.

  49. eric says:

yay it takes place in philly!
