First Pictures Of Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger

I was one of the few people that was ok initially when they announced that they would be doing a remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street WITHOUT the legendary Robert Englund returning to play the role of Freddy. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Englund as Freddy… but if you’re going to do a remake… then do a remake and get a new cast.

Then we were all thrilled when we heard that Jackie Earle Haley (Oscar Nominated actor most recently seen in Watchmen) would be taking up the glove to play Freddy Krueger.

Now our friends over at JoBlo have snagged our first glimpse at Haley as Krueger… apparently before he gets sweet burning mob justice from angry parents that disfigures him. Check out the full pics here.

This is a guy that survived the 90′s by appearing in B movie garbage so I’m sure he can camp it up for Freddy only thing is I know Englund was only like 5’9 or so but Jackie is like 5’5 so they better get alot of short victims or it’ll just look weird.

I am all for horror movie remakes but this…this does NOT sit right with me! C’mon Robert Enguld is Freddy. Just my two..:)

    • Jeremy K. says:

Ya.. ya.. And Jack Nickolson is the Joker. Yada… yada…

    • alfie says:

no jack nicholson was a take on a character already established in comics and t.v.
      not particularly great one either.

the freddy kruger character that wound up one the screen was created by craven AND englund specifically for the movie.

      huuuuggggeeee difference

    • Jeremy K. says:

You did not disprove my point. My point is that just because you think nobody else could play a certain role but a certain person is pure ignorance. That’s all. Any role for any character in any movie could, will or has been done better by somebody else sometime. Well, unless the world ends before it happens.

I agree with you completely. You can replace Jason and Michael, but you can’t replace Freddy. No one can ever do Freddy as well as Robert Englund. He is Freddy! This is very disappointing and I’m sure it will be no match for the originals.

  3. Darren J Seeley says:

    How tall is Freddy?
    Who gives a care????

As tall as he wants to be! When he’s haunting dreams, he freakin’ stretched his arms out like telephone poles; he became a giant snake, he shrunk down a victim to die in a bug trap, he once got buffed up, his freakin’ skeleton came back to like like out of an old Sinbad pirate film. And fans have “a problem” with how tall the actor is?

    DAMN!

    People, get over it.
How many actors have played Dracula or Frankenstien?

  4. AARON says:

I am against remakes, but Jackie for the role seems fine with me

  5. Ryan says:

I keep looking at those photos, but all I see is an asian man from that angle.

    AWESOME!!!!

    Perfect casting for Freddy

Wholeheartedly agree… this guy can be downright creepy on-screen. I LOVED the first few elm st movies and believe JEH can pull off Freddy.

I’m not for or against reboots but the people in charge of the reboot seem to be making good decisions I do get excited. Give me more reboots like Batman and Star Trek!

    • Matt Keith says:

I agree hes gonna be amazing as Freddy.

  8. matty says:

One of the greatest moments in the Watchmen film (apart from the amzing opening montage) was the moment where Rorschach momentarily cracks while begging Dr Manhattan to kill him. After being a hard-ass the whole movie, JEH embedded him with a sliver of humanity that really rounded him as a character, and gave an insight into what was perhaps his tre nature.

Although a direct lift from the graphic novel, it was a brilliant piece of acting by JEH, and really cemented him as someone to watch. Personally, I think he is going to knock Freddy right out of the park. Its been prbly ten years since I’ve watched a Nightmare on Elm Street movie, but JEH’s inclusion will get me through the door for this one.

    • SlashBeast says:

The scene where he cracks up was pretty much the only impressive bit of acting in the film.

  9. Pennell says:

The way I see it, how many times has Englund done Freddy? No matter what they could come up with now would just be another Freddy movie. I don’t think they could top what they have done. With someone else being Freddy, it’s going to be like watching the movie for the first time all over again. It now has a mysterious appeal to it for me. Plus it is going to be kind of creepy to see someone else play Freddy in full makeup! I can’t wait.

crap..crap..crap…leave well enough alone and for gods sakes stop all the crappy remake’s and come up with something new and fresh..not re-freshing an old film..pleeaassee…be original..not a copycat!
