Trailer for Fox’s Glee Online

By Rodney - April 22, 2009 - 21:24 America/Montreal

A new TV series is coming out by Fox called Glee that will deal with the High School hierarchy and what is considered “cool” or not. It will be an ongoing comedy/drama series that kicks off this May.

Now you may wonder why I am putting up a trailer for a TV series on the MOVIE Blog.

If you watched the trailer you might have thought it reminded you of something. Then you would realize that you didn’t watch that “something” because you were too cool for it.

High School Musical.

The Captain of the school’s most notable sports team is drawn away to a social clique he doesn’t belong in and finds his passion singing. There he meets the pretty nerd girl that will change his views on a lot of things he hadn’t considered. He finally stands up to the taunting and teasing and admits he likes singing but is convinced the system is broken and there is no reason he cannot do both.

Now I know that you can creatively describe any movie or tv show premise to make it sound like anything else, but honestly you cannot deny this parallel.

The only difference here? People over 15 might actually watch Glee.

I am going to.

I still don’t see how this is movie related.
It shares the plot of a made for tv movie??

so therefore its a movie article?

    • Rodney says:

And my point is made. High School Musical was a TV movie, but it grew to have a feature film as well.

Besides, even TV movies are MOVIES.

    • alfie says:

yeah but this is a tv show.

that has nothing to do with high school musical.

it has absolutely nothing to do with movies.

The fact that it has a similar plot line to a movie so therefore is movie related is sttttrrreeetttccchhhhiiiinnnnggggg it

    • Rodney says:

The TV show is similar to a movie and I brought it up for discussion.

  2. tzaylor says:

I never saw highschool musical but this looks interesting to me. It may just be I’m a sucker for good music and the trailer sucked me right in!

    I’m going to watch it

  3. Dogbone says:

I’d watch it just for the cheer coach! LOLZ!
    She’s an awesome actress/comedian!

  4. The Jim Walker says:

I can’t see how anyone would watch this. The ads for it are laughable. It’s like Gossip Girl meets High School Musical meets crap meets cancellation.

When a new TV Show/Movie ad (trailer) comes out it usually falls into one of 4 categories for me:
    1. Looks Good. I’ll definitely watch.
    2. Looks OK. I might watch.
    3. Looks ‘meh’. I probably won’t watch, not my cup o’ tea, but no bad vibes towards anyone who does watch.
    4. Looks bad. I won’t watch. Don’t think others will either.

BUT! There is an elusive 5th category! and that is what this show falls into:
    5. WTF?!?! Anyone who watches this show (correction… GARBAGE) should get beaten in the town square with sacks full of doorknobs.

In the name of the father, the son, and the Holy Fonz. Let us Ayyyyyy!

  5. Brian says:

Who was the red headed girl that said “get some of the popular ones and the rest will fall in line?” Every time I see the commercials for this show I recognize her, but not sure from where. I went to IMDB but didn’t have much luck because I didn’t know what her characters name was.
My taste in High School tv shows leans more towards things like Strangers with Candy and Freaks and Geeks. But might have to catch episodes.

    • E.J. says:

Her name is Jayma Mays. I recognize her as Charlie, a waitress on the first season of Heroes and from Pushing Daisies, but she’s been in a bunch of other stuff.

    • Brian says:

Thanks E.J., I’m sure I recognized her from Heroes.

  6. NATE-O says:

Damn You Rodney…I like it…at first i was like they r gonna cancel Terminator for this crap….but now i wanna see it and keep my Sarah Connor to of course

  7. Darren J Seeley says:

Well, no, Rodney. When I first saw the ads for the show, which were heavy on promo during the last two weeks of American Idol, High School Musical 1,2 or 3 never entered my mind.

I was thinking Fame/Fame The Series, Take The Lead and Step Up 2.

I was also thinking it would be a decent show, with its heart on the sleeve, with everyone overcoming varied obstacles, be it the “restrictive” school administration, the “rough” kids meshing with the “preppy” kids/diversity, the parents who don’t want the kids to have a creative outlet…

If the show is a hit, what would we get in season two?

A repeat cycle, more of the same.
Which leaves the teen angst, and that is every other show on Fox and CW, is it not? While everyone has dreams and hopes, I’m not sure if I’m sold on the series in that regard either. That’s how the show is advertised. “Everyone has dreams” blah blah blah. That may be true; but most high schools I know of had various art/drama/music classes or after school hobby clubs. So unless it is set at an arts school, it has little meaning.

So what’s left of the series? Well, the can drag out that romance angle I suppose. I’m pretty sure the dude who tossed the grape shushie in the girl’s face will be dating her by then.

  8. Kiddo says:

I have been waiting for this show ever since that first teaser came out. It looks SO good. Totally my style of show.
And actually I had never figured out it’s the same as HSM but more grown up, LOL, I’ve never liked HSM so I just blocked it out of my mind.
Plus the main actress is REALLY good, I saw her last year on broadway’s Spring Awakening and she can SING.
    Can’t wait for this show.

  9. Cole says:

Thanks for the link to the trailer. It actually does look interesting, but more as a movie or a mini-series than an actual TV show. The actors involved already look like they’re in grad school so it would be tough to make this last more than a season.

  10. Meli says:

This show looks like a lot of fun!!! I always have at least one high school/teen show on my TV schedule and since 90210 sucks and One Tree Hill might be in its last season this is the perfect replacement.
