Demetri Martin joins Moneyball

By Rodney - April 21, 2009 - 07:04 America/Montreal

Demetri Martin will join the back bench of Moneyball, a baseball movie about the birth of the Earned Run Average.

Movieweb shares:

Steven Soderbergh is directing the film based off Michael Lewis’ book which tells the tale of Oakland Athletic’s general manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) and his low-cost formula for championship success. Martin will play Paul De Luca, a statistician who’s Earned Run Value system took a unique approach to scouting and enabled Beane to hire quality players at a lower cost.

I like sports movies that explore unconventional methods that changed the game. I find them much more rewarding than comeback films or underdog victories.

Demetri Martin has been a favourite of mine for a while now. I just can’t get enough of his observation comedy. Seriously funny guy.

To see him added as a statistician makes sense. He has a casually acceptable awkwardness to him and to play a person so numerically focused sounds like a good fit.

If you haven’t had the chance to see Martin do his thing, check this out.

Oh man, he is probably tied with Mitch Hedberg as my favourite comedian.

I saw a random link to one of his times on The Daily Show and I thought he was hilarious. Then I saw he had a CD so I got it and I was pissin’ myself laughing it was so groin grabbingly good.

The CD I heard is called These Are Jokes, check it out if you haven’t already. I’m not sure if he has any other ones.
