Weird Al Yankovic cast in Halloween 2
Rob Zombie’s sequel to Halloween is well on its way despite mixed reviews of his reboot of the franchise. But it seems his odd casting choices seem to be the flavour of news today. Accordion Musical Comedian Extraordinaire Weird Al Yankovic has been cast
FilmJunk reports:
Weird Al Yankovic has been cast in Halloween 2 as a television talk show host. Here’s why I’m not surprised: First off, Rob Zombie has a serious love of long, stringy hair. This means Weird Al is totally his man. Second; he cast Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees as a gun salesman in the first Halloween. Actually, Zombie seems to do a lot of this type of casting. Like Tarantino, he tends to gravitate towards character actors he likely was a fan of growing up. I
So is this sort of casting really just a fan tribute for Rob Zombie?
Casting Weird Al as a TV Talk Show host wouldn’t be a stretch for Al’s character acting, but there is a reason Weird Al doesn’t have an acting career, but I have tons of respect for him as a music artist. His most brilliant stuff is often not his cover spoofs. And his one shot at the big screen (UHF is a staple in my DVD Collection) was all just Weird Al being himself, and that worked.
Despite his random genius, I would love to see Weird Al in this as a straight laced TV Host, and hope he isn’t one of his zany exaggerated persona. That would just be sweet. Everyone will anticipate him to start screaming about Velcro and tater tots while illustrating his double-jointedness. But I think it would be a sharp point to have him all stoic and serious. There is your cameo worth watching.
As much as I love Weird Al I don’t think I can bring my self to see him as a one of the first people to cast in a movie.
One of the first? What? There’s been multiple casting reports every day pretty much for the last two months or more.
Please please let him sing White and Nerdy at the end of the movie! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!
Just watch. Since Rob Zombie’s behind the helm, he’ll probably record a cover of one of Weird Al’s songs lol.
Here’s hoping for “Smells Like Nirvana”!
UHF Rules, freaki’ hilarious…He can pull it of, weird choice but at least Zombie did’t hire him to do the soundtrack.
love UHF too …..isnt kramer in that movie too?
He’s not the host. He’s a guest. The movie filmed his scene where I work.
With the current 3D craze for horror, I am still holding out hope for “Nature Trail to Hell (in 3D)”
April Fools?
