Old Timers Hockey to see Big Screen in Stan’s Cup

Old Timers hockey is a fun game to go watch. They often do charity matches against local police teams and sway their tarnished talent to remind you that despite being retired for 20 years they are still better than you.

With the thick nostalgia of glory days past, it looks like we will see a film based on those Oldtimers called Stan’s Cup.

Written by Rice, the movie centers on a broken-down, once-great hockey player who gets a chance to fill his legendary father’s skates by giving his hometown, known as Hockeytown USA, a pseudo rematch of the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” game against a Russian team of ex-Olympians.

The filmmakers see the movie as having a “Full Monty” vibe rather than that of a traditional sports movie, focusing on an unusual place and the eccentric people who inhabit it.

I became somewhat of a hockey fan once my boys decided they wanted to play. Every season I change my sports fan wardrobe to match the teams they play in. It is easy to get swept up in the excitement.

So I am looking forward to seeing a quirky comedy revolving around some Old Timers returning to the ice once more. Sounds like some good fun.

You mean like the World Juniors we have won 5 years in a row? Or the dozens of other national honours Canada has taken in world hockey over the last 5 decades? Or how many Stanley Cup wins have come from Canadian teams?

Before you shoot your mouth off you might want to check the facts.

      Just sayin.

The sharks always place well during the regular season, whether it be first or 2nd in the pacific, but as ALWAYS, i’m counting on a 1st rnd exit from them during playoffs.

    Go Ducks!

Yes, San Josey does well recently, then they run into real tested playoff teams, NHL is a long season, and they always overplay it, hahahaha, Wings to repeat, its science!

God, I hope they mean it. Hollywood’s idea of “unusual” and “eccentric” is usually plain as yogurt. But it’d be nice to see if hockey movies went back to being more like ‘Slap Shot’.
