2009 Oscar Nominees
The 2009 Oscar Nominees were announced today.
The obvious winner in the 2009 Oscar Nominees list was obviously The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button with 13 nominations, with Slumdog Millionaire coming up 2nd with 10 nominations.
The only real shaft of the whole thing was that the very best film of the year… by a MILE… didn’t get nominated. Wall-e only got the token cop out nomination for Best Animated Film… which is total bull. Other than that, it’s a pretty solid list.
I’m a LITTLE bit surprised that The Dark Knight didn’t get nominated for best picture… but honestly I didn’t think it was one of the 5 best films of the year, so I can’t say I’m shocked.

holy crap they went for a major bore fest with the best pictures. other then “Slumdog Millionaire” everyone one of those are a sure cure for insomnia.
Just like other Oscars, the same 5-7 movies dominate the whole show. It makes the awards a little tedious.
I agree with John, Wall-E should have AT LEAST been nominated for Best Picture. I really think that The Dark Knight should have gotten a little more love, The Wackness should be in there somewhere too.
One of the problems with the Oscars is that all of the big contenders come out within the same two month period and are also in limited releases. So when it comes time for the show no one has seen the fucking movies! I had to drive an hour to see Milk!! I saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Gran Torino in the same night because I was trying to get all the Oscar contenders in before the nominees were announced.
Still haven’t seen Slumdog Millionaire, Frost/Nixon, and The Wrestler either.
One more thing, all of these movies are fucking depressing!!! They are good movie but they all make me hate life! Put something fun like Wall-E in more categories!!
Yah Walle is on there!!!! But I can’t believe Kung fu panda is on there! Horton Hears a who should of been on there instead of Bolt and Kung fu Panda.
For all the things to love about The Dark Knight, the editing isn’t one of them. The movie was 45 minutes too long!
Mickey Rourke for Best Actor! Slumdog will win best picture and directing..Kate Winslet is long overdue.
Why is it whenever I see lists of nominations it seems like all the picks are very recent movies. Like they were picked from only the last month or so. Shouldn’t there be a whole year worth of movies to pick from? (Or is it all in my imagination).
^^ No, all the Oscar contenders are released by the studios within a couple of months to keep them fresh in the Academy’s mind.
So, i’m gonna say yay for Benjamin Button getting a lot of nominations, it was an absolutely fantastic movie. However, they played it REALLY safe this year. I was hoping that TDK or Wall-E would get a nomination, but I guess not.
I really thought Wall-e was going to make it in for Best Picture.

And why nominate Winslet for the Holocaust flick and not Revolutionary Road, which most critics say is her strongest performance in her entire career?
Ok I made a short comment on it in another post but got to say it here, that I am disappointed that the Wrestler didn’t get a best picture nom, which has been the best film I’ve seen this Oscar cycle so far imo…
I do admit out of the 5 noms I have only seen Slumdog to this point. However, I’ve barely heard a peep about the Reader before today, and then I see on RT how it just squeaked out a fresh rating at 60% (and only a shitty 52% with top critics!). One has to wonder how the hell this made it into the top 5 movies of the year!?!?! Over the Wrestler or even Doubt… (Not that RT ratings are 100% truth, but its a good guide line usually)
Also for best original song, Slumdog gets two songs… that’s two songs… but Bruce’s song for wrestler somehow didn’t make it… I think you’ve commented on this before John, and it has to be said again that when it comes to song nominations its broken. Each movie should only be allowed to have one song submitted and not monopolize the category.
Other then that I’m ok with the rest of the nominations for the most part. Glad to see RDJr get a nom as well as In Bruges getting one at least.
I’m pretty pleased with the noms, though I hoped that Sally Hawkins would get nominated for Happy-Go-Lucky. All in all, there are no big surprises.
Sweden submitted finnish-swedish production Maria Larssons eviga ögonblick (I have no idea what’s the english title, here in Finlad it was Ikuistetut hetket) which was in the top-9 list, but didn’t make it to the top-5.

OK, so they won’t nominate Wall-E for best picture because it’s animation. But why does the animated movie “Waltz with Bashir” get nominated for Best Foreign Film??? Unlike last year’s “Persepolis” from France which got nominated for best animated movie only.
Can somebody explain this to me?
I was pretty disappointed to see that Bruce Springsteen’s The Wrestler wasn’t nominated for best song.

Can anyone please explain to me how Wall-E is up for best original screenplay? I loved the movie but for the most part the movie is just the two robots doing beeps and whistles.
There’s more to a screenplay than dialogue. All the actions are included in the screenplay.
I just really angry as well with the oscars now. They no longer are about the movies really, it is purely about the politics and making everyone in the biz happy,

I agree, they’re all fuckin’ depressing movies. Whoever makes or does the most depressing performance wins, damn drama contest. Rev. Road is nice and all, oooh, Kate W. is so depressing that she makes it look real (I haven’t seen that before, nope, I haven’t seen that in “Little Children”,etc…)
2008 was a long year. What happened to the rest of the movies? Are these the 2008 or 2009 Academy Awards? It seems like the year started in December, footage taken prior to that was insignificant crap.

i admires after watching the movie slumdog millionier. the concept was looking cool. in picture what they want to picturise exactly they did it.there is no confusion.after watching out the film at the time of return to home ithink in my self it may raises the chances for getting askar award to a indian film. but i didnot express it with any one because of some slurry in my mind itself. but it done it by nominated into 10 groups. i feel happy about it. actually this film desserves askar to india atleast in even numbers. heartful congrats to team whop makes it.

I’m actually supporting Benjamin Button for best of the year, but only because I haven’t seen all the others (they aren’t playing in my theater, I HATE limited release).
