Quick Thoughts On “Yes Man”
This isn’t a Yes Man review since I’m so late it getting this put up. I usually won’t do a review unless I can get it online the at least by the weekend it comes out… and this weekend was booked. But I did want to post up a least a little something about my thoughts on the new Jim Carrey movie Yes Man.
I liked it.
Jim Carrey used to be pure money in the bank, but his star has lost a lot of its shine in the last few years (remember how dreadfully awful “The Number 23” was? It didn’t help that the first “Yes Man” trailer I saw looked like a pile of garbage. But he’s a good Canadian boy so I decided to head out and check it out anyway. I’m glad that I did.
The movie is just funny… and had an interesting thing to say as well. As most of you know, Carrey plays a guy who, for reasons I won’t reveal” finds himself in a situation where he has to say yes to everything. The idea here is that embracing opportunities that come our way, no matter how big or small, gives us the chance to break out of our routines, to expand our horizons and truly live life and that the opportunities we need to embrace the most are the ones we are most unlikely to want to embrace. An interesting message, but one that resonated with me.
This is the first Jim Carrey movie I’ve seen where the man actually is starting to look his age, and that’s a good thing to me. The man is almost 47 and has perpetually looked 30 for the last 15 years. Seeing a little bit of age on his face almost makes him more believable, or at the very least relatable like a real human being.
My friend who went with me said that although Carrey is still “zany”, it feels like his on screen comedy is also starting to mature a little bit. It was a great observation and I agree with it completely.
I love Zooey Deschanel, but I’ve got to say I didn’t think much of her in this particular movie. I think it was just a matter of being miscast.
So to sum up: Yes man is funny, Carrey is maturing a little bit in his comedy but still zany, Zooey Deschanel was miscast. I liked the movie.
It’s funny that you say that Zooey D was miscast, because there’s not a role out there that she’s suited for. I admit I haven’t seen all her movies, but did not enjoy the ones she was in because of her. She totally bombed in the happening, and in my opinion, single-handedly destroyed The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. I hope i’m not alone in thinking that her voice is completely obnoxiously high pitched and phlegmy, every time she opens her face-hole it just takes me out of the movie.
There was nothing single-handed about the failure of Hitchhikers. It was a truly dedicated group effort.

i hate it when he does stupid comedy..like the retarded expresions and all that, hes funny when hes just..a little more real. in bruce almighty his best scenes were when he was acting sort of like a normal person would. not like in fucking ace ventura or..oh god..the riddler

Zooey was a little too young-looking to play opposite Jim, I thought. That said, I liked her performance. I thought she nailed the care-free, “I don’t really give a damn but I’m still kind and gentle” character. My problem with Zooey, is that I’ve only seen her in a few roles, and she’s starting to mirror Michael Cera in that her acting seems one dimensional. I’d like to see her in something that’s a stretch. If anyone’s seen a movie where she showcases her acting chops, I’d surely like to hear about it.
My friend saw the movie over the weekend and he said that the movie character was somewhat like his character in “Liar, Liar”.
I’m afraid I have no interest in watching Jim pay the bills anymore. I’ve grown out of it.

I agree, it was a decent comedies, one of the better comedies of 08.

I just watched :”The Happening” (which should be on everyone’s worst films of the year), and Zooey was miscast in that one too. She seems very one dimensional in everything she does. Maybe on her next film she should take some speed and really let loose.
Zoeey is a beautiful girl, and i thought she was good in this

Just got back from seeing the film, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. It isn’t one of my all-time favorite Jim Carrey movies, but I certainly enjoyed it more than most of his recent work. Also, I actually liked Zooey quite a lot in this film. I mean, her performance wasn’t brilliant, but I thought she did pretty well.

According to Rotten Tomates almost half of the critics out there (44%) have given Yes Man a positive review.
I thought the premise of the movie was unique and relatable. I like Zooey but can see what you’re saying about her being miscast. I think eventually she will be typecasted b/c of how she carries and expresses herself. The movie had its moments but I think as Jim gets older he will progessively ‘tone it down’ onscreen. Regardless, the movie struck a certain chord with me.
Wow…I can’t believe all the people saying Zooey was miscast. Her very unique chemistry with Carrey was the best part of the movie, I thought!

Here in Puerto Rico, Jim Carrey still fills up a theater. I went to see it with my hubby, he’s more of a slap stick comedy (i hate it), but still he like the movie. I like jim carrey more in this kind of movie cuz if I see him one more time like the riddler I’m going to gauge my eyes out with a spoon.
Zooey, kinda saney, love her in Tin Man at sci fi. She and carrey made an unique pair, I liked it.
yes thats TWO people that hated him as the riddler that great so i am diffently not along in this
