Well this is exciting news indeed. It looks like Ms. Rachel McAdams will be joining the cast of Sherlock Holmes. We get the scoop from our friends at comingsoon:
The Hollywood Reporter says Rachel McAdams will star opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes, a reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s character that Guy Ritchie is directing for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow.
McAdams plays Holmes’ enigmatic love interest, Irene Adler, a character who appeared in Doyle’s 1891 “A Scandal in Bohemia.” While the character only appeared in that one story, McAdams’ personage would return for any possible sequel. Downey will play Holmes while Mark Strong plays the main villain, Blackwood. Jude Law is portraying Holmes’ colleague Watson.
I like Mr. Sherlock Holmes, and I like this cast. My anticipation for this picture grows more and more with each casting announcement, and this news is no different. I wouldn’t say that Rachel McAdams is my favorite actress at present, but her star is rising and I’m curious to see her tangle among these master thespians.
Much talk has been said about this being a film for fans of the Sherlock Holmes novels, and that is what pleases me most. The character is a legend for a reason, and those reasons always need to shine through, in every incarnation.

I really liked her as the bank teller in Catch Me If You Can
Hmm… I have seen her in a few things over the years that she’s apparently been missing. Not sure why Kristina think she’s been gone, but nevertheless, I gotta correct you Doug, as Rachel isn’t in W. I think you’re thinking of Elizabeth Banks, dude…
Anyways, this is great news, and it looks like The Lucky Ones will be a decent movie, and gives Rachel some more lead roles to help the A-list name game that must be played… This Sherlock Holmes casting is definitely not holding back, eh!
Aren’t you getting Rachel McAdams confused with Elizabeth Banks there? Banks is playing Laura Bush, although they do look very similar, come to think of it.
Rachel McAdams is great. She even makes me want to go see “The Lucky Ones”.
Oh and you’re thinking of Elizabeth Banks of “Slither” fame from W. Talk about falling far. From “Slither” to a Kevin Smith movie to playing Laura Bush and working for OLiver Stone.
I would tell “Doug” that McAdams is not in W., but others appear to have beaten me to it.

I’m intrigued. Doesn’t sound like the movie is sticking very closely to the books if the love interest is a major character - but it might satisfy Sherlock Holmes fans anyway.
This is one of those films that I don’t know what to expect from.
Jude Law as Watson? What?
I can’t picture it but I’ll reserve judgement until I see the movie.
