We get wind today that Kiera Knightly is set to star in the 1920′s period drama The Beautiful and the Damned. We get the skinny from our friends at the movieweb:

Nick Cassavetes is set to direct The Beautiful and the Damned, a period love story about F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Sayme for the Film Department. Word has it that Keira Knightley is in talks to play the tempestuous lover.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Beautiful and the Damned revolves around Zelda Sayre (Knightley) and F. Scott Fitzgerald, who became Jazz Age icons known for living large, soaring high and crashing hard. Although toasts of town in the 1920s, their courtship and marriage was festooned with jealousy and acrimony. Fitzgerald used their relationship as material for his novels, and Sayre — who tried hard to find an artistic identity of her own and ended up being admitted to a sanitarium — did the same.

Kiera Knightly lives for this shit! Give this woman a time machine for her birthday, it appears she hates the here and now. The 1920′s is a much more recent period pice than we are used to from her. In the 20′s the ukulele was a popular instrument, art deco was lining the streets, flapper sluts were smoking and drinking in jazz clubs - times were good.

Although I think it’s humorous that Knightly only seems to do “gown movies” I can’t say it bothers me much. To be honest, If I saw her in jeans on screen - I think it would be strange at this point.

We will be on the lookout fro more news about this project and be sure to shoot you updates as they are made available to us!
