3 Imax Action Sequences In Transformers 2

It looks like lord Bay will be blessing us with giant robot Imax violence. We get the following scoop from the professionals at Variety via IESB:

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is set to have at least three action setpieces shot in IMAX! Variety had the news today. The trade has an article on the effect the IMAX shots in the summer’s biggest film, The Dark Knight, has had on other upcoming blockbuster movies.

Here’s the exact quote, Michael Bay will film at least three action setpieces using Imax cameras for “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” which is lensing.

As much as there was to dislike about the first Transformers film, they were able to create some pretty outstanding CGI action with the robots. The highway fight scene was very cool, and a testament to the visual effects today. It’s this sort of scene that screams to be part of the IMAX experience, and I’m glad that the sequel plans to do just that.

No word yet on how many IMAX minutes will be in the film, but we’ll be sure to look for further details, and shoot you the information as soon as it becomes available.

why are imax movies only 12% in imax screen?

i mean…use those 3 scenes in imax..and the rest of the movie in normal theatrical vberion only that its a big screen…then have the imax screen be HD or whatever

and expect the scenes to be kickass….michael bay KNOWS how to fucking make good imax worthy explosion/action scenes.

Well if ‘The Fallen’ is indeed some giant robot or we have other transformers merging to become a combined machine then it will be sweet to see that hugeness with an IMAX camera.

I’ve never seen a movie in Imax because i dont like the imax in montreal :P (i havent been back in 6-8 years) so maybe i will give it another shot for this film ;)

I wish they had the money to shoot the whole thing in IMAX so that the screen wouldn’t keep switching from fullscreen to letterbox. It was a wee bit annoying during TDK in IMAX.

  5. ADOX says:

I really need to see a movie at IMAX, I have seen a documentary.

Beowulf was booked out so I seen it in a regular cinema in that RealD format.

I wish I’d knew about TDK at IMAX.

Transformers2is a bit far off for waiting to see an IMAX film but it will be a must.

  6. Sound Designer Dan says:

It’s not that it’s expensive using the camera. 3 major things hold back the use of the IMAX in major productions:
    1) It’s fucking heavy as hell.
    2) It’s so goddamn loud that all dialogue shot with the camera must be ADR’d.
    3) You can only shoot 3 minutes of film before it must be reloaded which takes a LOT of manpower.

  7. Transformers Fan says:

I really need to see a movie in IMAX. The closed IMAX theater to me is in Atlanta. I may have to plan a road trip.
