We have rumblings this morning that a Top Gun 2 may be in the works…. starring Tom Cruise! We get the saucy scoop from our friends at cinematical:
According to those extremely reliable cats at The Sun, a script outline for Top Gun 2 is done and “movie bosses” want Cruise to star.
Apparently a source said this about the plot: “The idea is Maverick is at the Top Gun school as an instructor - and this time it is he who has to deal with a cocky new female pilot.” Ooohh, original … and spicy! It’s like Karate Kid 4 meets A Really Big Paycheck for Tom Cruise! And yet … we’d all still see it. Why are we such suckers? We currently have no idea how real this rumor is, so for the time being I wouldn’t exactly break out into song and dance. Maybe it’ll happen, maybe it won’t.
In this film Maverick teaches his students how to prepare in the event of a UFO invasion against the forces of XENU!! He is a special operative with a dark past, a dirty secret. Eventually one of the students finds out that Mav is an alien abduction survivor and now spends his time preparing for revenge. Top Gun 2: The Wrath Of XENU!!!!
I would love for them to fight aliens in this film, but sadly we will probably have nothing half that cool. Remakes are getting needless, and a Top Gun 2 wreaks of desperate times for Cruise. I hope he doesn’t sign on for this one, because to get in that jet anew - you have to jump a shark.
International Friends - do any of you have any interest in seeing a Top Gun sequel? Or is it “Xenu or bust” for you too?
Top Gun was an excellent film for the time. Now with all of the bad publicity around Tom Cruise and Scientology, this is got to be a) a joke b) rumor spread by the movie studios just to see how receptive the public will be to the idea.
If I were to bet another person’s money, there’s no way in hell this is real.
I agree with the Scientology part, but I would like to see another Top Gun and Cruise is the only one can play Maverick, it would not be the same without him. They need to bring back Val Kilmer too.
you’ll definitely need Cruise and Kilmer,and if they hadn’t killed Goose,it would need Anthony Edwards as well,not to mention…WTF happened with Charlie? But seriously,Navy Fighter Jets against UFOs? umm,already happened in “Independence Day” except instead of F-14s they used F/A-18s. I agree that the Scientology Aspect of Cruise’s life has left him with very little credibility and made him somewhat unbelievable as a Fighter Pilot (I Blame “Days of Thunder” for that).
As For a Female Protagonist,it’s a dicey thing,it could work or it could fail big time,depending on how believable the actress can portray the role (duh).
i think they should so make a top gun 2 i love it but i want to know what happens next does mavrick get to be a top gun instuctor does charlie still like mav things like that and i just love top gun

If they make another Top Gun. It’s gotta have the Kenny Loggins Soundtrack. And bring back Tim Robbins as Merlin.
Even with Tom Cruise in a second Top Gun it would suck and be completely wrong without the real star of the original Top Gun which was the F-14 Tomcat. Without it it just wouldn’t be right.
id love to see another top gun- the jet plane scene in behind enemy lines was 10 times more exiting then all the top guns dogfights but w.e.

I’ve always loved Fighter Jet movies, I even was into the Iron Eagle series (that should give you an idea how far I’ll lower my movie standards just to watch some jets in action), but please, no second Top Gun! The sequels are all upon us, and I can’t help but blame Sylvester Stallone.
First, @ DJ the first Iron Eagle movie was awesome.
To make this movie work, they really really need to invite Val Kilmer to reprise his role as Iceman BUT not from Top Gun but from his SNL skit where he was all washed up and flying a passenger jet. Maverick needs to be a drunk as well. And the movie should conclude with a 30-minute beach volleyball scene with a Sham-hammer twist ending of Goose walking out of the water to be Maverick’s partner for the game.
I think at least one character in this movie should be a Muppet.

“Top Gun 2″ with Maverick as a flight instructor has been kicking around since the Dark Ages; now it’s come up again.
I don’t see it with Cruise. And last I seen Kelly McGillis was some cheese on Sci-Fi Channel a week or so ago-DinoCroc I think, or something like that. Yes- the very same woman who was great in Top Gun (as an slightly older love interest no less) and from Witness and The Accused…that’s what she’s reduced to. Creature food.
*She* needs Top Gun 2 more than Tom Cruise does.
And a female fighter pilot who does the tower buzzin’ now? Y’know, Id much rather see Mav and Charlie still together. I know it won’t sit well with today’s bullshit youth. Not to mention that while Top Gun holds a 80′s time capsule for me and many others, let’s not kid ourselves.
I don’t know who the next Pres is, but when Top Gun came out it was in the Reagan and Bush Sr. era; it was a fun, entertaining, (yet some incredible bullshit too) kind of a film. It was also, by default, a crude Join the Navy promo campaign. I support our troops and all, I’m a conservative Republican but let’s not kid ourselves. At the time it was a interactive recruiting ad!…
In addition, it’s not like Cruise’s star has fallen so much that he would need his own Die Hard- Indy- Rambo 4.
I think the Scientology barbs aren’t needed, BTW.
The decision to produce this film will be tied to the Navy’s desperation for increased recruitment.
Perhaps Top Gun #2 will finally put to rest the unresolved questions from Top Gun #1:
a) Why would anyone play beach volleyball in bluejeans?
b) Why does Maverick forgo his date with Kelly McGillis and instead play beach volleyball with a bunch of half naked men?
c) And why oh why does Rick Rossovich do that growl noise during the beach volleyball game?
PS: I cried when Goose died.

why not, there is place for another one. Why not see Maverick how he did his homework, and how will homework look like when he is creator.
Old crew, same place, some new people. I’m in that ides is overused in Hoolywood movies for decades now, but, maybe there are interesting things, that are not be said by Sun’s source.
I would have it in mind, until there is direct NO, and wait for it.

Please don’t ruine the name of a good movie by bringing in a waste of a sequel…the tip of the ice berg itself seems too dull…we can’t expect the rest to be the best!!!

first off, lets get real, every person on this board would go and see top gun 2 regardless of how much shit you want to talk now. Top gun 2 could be a great flick if done correctly… And since so much time has gone by, it could be a great “years later” story
The rumors are only slightly true. The motion picture will NOT be titled Top Gun 2. The movie is called “Kerosene Cowboys” and it is based on the Naval Aviation action novel Kerosene Cowboys written by Randy Arrington. The tremendous buzz surrounding the production in Hollywood indicates that there is a great likelihood of it becoming a blockbuster when released next November. This will mark the very first time that the US Department of Defense and the Russian Defense Ministry have collaborated on a motion picture production. The film will start shooting in Russia in September and finish up at the Navy Fighter Weapons School (“Top Gun”) in Nevada and onboard an aircraft carrier at sea. Mario van Peebles will direct and the Executive Producer, Bob Yari, is currently assembling a large ensemble cast of A-List actors, each a huge box office draw in their own right.

First, Top Gun is a great movie! Make fun of it if you wish… call it homoeroginic, call it whatever you want… the movie was fun… the movie was entertaining… and according to movie ticket and DVD sales I don’t think there’s many people out there that haven’t seen it at least once.
Quite frankly, Top Cruise is one of my favorite actors… and Top Gun is my favorite movie. Do I want to see a #2? Part of me is excited about the idea… however, after seeing Rambo 4 (although no comparison between Cruise’s shape and that of Sylvester Stalone) I’m a bit nervous of the prospect of Top Gun 2. I like the story-line idea… and with the conflict in the middle-east, action scenes would be a-plenty. However, as far as the flying scenes go… better to do it like “Behind Enemy Lines” than like “Stealth”… “Stealth” was too blurry and in my opinion kinda sloppy… “Behind” I thought was done much better.
The main issue here is this… Paramount owns the rights to Top Gun (and of course Top Gun 2)… and they have a hate-on for Tom Cruise… so I sadly doubt this will happen…Or else they are not going to get Tom for cheap. I say get what you can Tom!
Top Gun 2 isn’t such a bad concept, except for the alien spin, that would be ridiculous. However, a good concept would be if Tom Cruise’s character “Maverick” were to still be and instructor @ Miramar or perhaps retired and was trying to help Goose’s son who wants to be a Navy pilot or is one and having a hard time.
Tom do it ! its time for you to come up with a love story …

My young son and I recently met Randy Arrington at a book signing in San Diego. I must confess that this soon-to-be celebrity author was a real pleasure to speak with. Not something I was expecting from a former Navy pilot who used to land jets on the pitching deck of an aircraft carrier at night. Arrington is a stunningly handsome man, but likewise he is a very down to earth human being who is obviously quite at ease while interacting with the general public. His sense of humility about the success of his book and the upcoming movie based on his novel was, in a word, refreshing and I am glad my son was there to witness his demeanor. I highly recommend picking up a copy of his novel “Kerosene Cowboys: Manning the Spare.” It is simply a brilliant and extremely entertaining piece of contemporary writing. My son Derek and I can’t wait to see the movie and all of Arrington’s incredible characters up on the silver screen.
I like the idea, but Tom Cruise is original, don’t like the second parts just MI, MI2 and MI3.
The story maybe the goose’son try to be a pilot in the same school like him father die. Remenber MEg Ryan, Val Kilmer, Ironside, and another excellent actors the budget maybe short.
finally if this film must be maker a part II, Maverick Instructor and the participation of the goose’s son, from 1986 to 2008 a guy with 27 years old, leaning fly.

I do not think they should use a female in this. That would be like the Iron Eagle movies. I feel that they should star Chad Michael Murray as Goose’s son and now one of the top pilots in the nation, and the reason he became another IceMan was because he wanted to face the man he feel killed his father. They could really play that up, and Chad Michael Murray would be perfect for it because he looks like he could be Goose’s son and he would be “about the right age” but they could age him up a little if they had to. That would be superior. James Lafferty could play the “Maverick” role to Murray’s “IceMan”. That would really make the movie a whole lot better!

I just got done watching Top Gun and my buddy and I thought it would be awesome if there was a sequel with Tom Cruise as the flight director so I am glad our thoughts are already being considered. We agree that a female lead role would not connect with the male viewers. The reason the original was so big and still is one of the top ten of all time men’s favorite movies is because we can relate to it and almost fantasize about being Tom in the fighter jet. IT HAS TO BE A MALE ROLE!! It should be a high profile young actor who is big right now. My girlfriend dragged me to the twilight movie last night and although I did not enjoy it, I just had a though that the actor who plays Jacob could be a good leading role. I’m just not sure how good the acting would be. The good thing is that it would also attract the females to come watch the movie as well as the males and it would make a TON of money. The last sequence could have Tom jumping in a jet to save the day again! Just some thoughts. Hope we see another one soon!
With whats going on in the Middle East, I think it would work. He would have to be the Commander of the Top Gun School. And deal with another hotshot pilot on his way to fight in Iraq.

Top Gun cost me 5 years of my life. Wanted to be the guy that said “Roger, that’s your bogey”. 2 years into my enlistment I went to AIC (air intercept control) school, and during the first gulf war finally got to say “Roger, that’s your bogey”, 3 times. Anyway, hope the cocky young pilot is a guy. The smell of fraternization gets to strong if its a girl. There’s got to be a babe though.

Top Gun is my all time favorite movie!! I named my son Mavrick because of the movie. Now we watch the movie together all the time. I would love a Top Gun 2 to be produced, I am just not liking the whole alien thing. It’s really unrealistic. I have alway said there should be another movie.

I love Top Gun. From there grew my infactuation with these billion dollar fighters. To know that Top Gun 2 might be in the works, is both exciting and scary. Scary cause it might suck and do part 1 no justice. Hopefully it’ll be made right. But personally, I think the story should change. More action and less of that romance crap. And Tom Cruise should just be a cameo for the movie. It’ll be cool to reference back to him as Maverick, the Top Gun instructor. And it would be even cooler if they filmed down in Mira Mar, CA. My boyfriend lives only a few miles away from there so I could go watch them film the movie…that’s if they don’t do everything by CGI.

I would go see it but i think they need to change the plot a little. They should write so “Goose” comes back from the dead and kicks the crap out of “Maverick” for wrecklessly taking his life in the first movie. Besides im sure Anthony Edwards needs a paycheck by now. People will flock to this movie…….ohh yea im feelin it!! “Shove it into overdrive” or “I feel the need, the need for speed!”

Well it has been funny reading everyone’s comments about the filmmakers trying to do a sequal to Topgun2. I think the first topgun when I watch it now was a big recruiting ad during the cold war and since the threat of Russia has declined quite a bit they are still very much so a threat along side china/and N. kroea as we’ve seen recently against their attacks against S. Korea. They could still do the movie even with F-18 superhornet’s which are two seater fighter jet’s and still make a good movie with greater flying abilities than the f-14 had but the f-14 was quite the sexy fighterjet in my opnion. Im not sure who’d they get to do the acting but I’m sure they’d have some ideas. Who was the lil kid that played Gooses son?? he def would be a lil too old to be startin to learn how to fly since most pilots learn just before 24. …. I’d say there would have to a crisis situation again but between N. korea/and China. They equally hate us and both are threats and have fighterjets and not just our old used bought usa fighters. They actually have their own and Migs as well. Then they could use real migs and not F-5s painted over. And just because Russia wouldnt get involved if happen like recently the attacks against S. Korea to help the North out doesnt mean they arent supplying them either. They’re obviously a communist country as well. AS China too. Wonder how the relations between china would react? lol. hahaha. So def make a topgun2. There’s other threats than terrorist right now and always still threats. Do your homework Paramount…….
