Kristin Kreuk as Chun-Li

We have a new image of Kristin Kreuk as Chun-Li this morning thanks to our friends at slashfilm:

Chun--Li

I assume this picture shows Chun-Li before she dons the traditional garb..or at least I fucking hope so. If Chun-Li doesn’t end up in that fantastic blue outfit and signature hairdo by the midpoint of the film - I may send the producers a cup of my own piss.

I don’t like Kreuk as Chun-Li. I don’ t want to sound like a stickler, but she doesn’t look enough like the character. I want Chun-Li to look like Chun-Li. After watching the Forbidden Kingdom I am uncertain why Yifei Liu wasn’t considered for the role. She can certainly kick ass, and would look hot as fuck in the classic blue.

I don’t have much hope for this film so I guess I shouldn’t care; but when you’ve thrown as many quarters as I have into SF2 arcade machines….you want your heroes to be treated with respect.

Films set up to be X actor’s transition from TV to film are rarely good.

  3. Darran

Im with you doug that chick from Forbidden Kingdom is absolutely sensational! :)

  4. digital drew

Kk is one of the most beautiful in hollywoodland
but yea the girl from forbidden kingdom was pretty smokin, and looked a lil more asian then kk (even though she is too), not that i think that matters.

I cant see her making it big for somereason, she will always be lana lang. i hope she does though…scratch that, she should probably just quit Hollywood and marry me.

wern’t you the same guy who just basically told the Dragonball fans to shutup because Goku is really not asian, (when he actually is) but now your complaining on how Chun li looks?? I think it’s a good choice. THe girl is half asain, she already has an american fanbase, and the superman fans will come out, She also has a purple belt in karate, so she can actually look the part, and do her own fighting.

  6. leaner

sorry, I guess that was Rodney who said that.

I can assure you I told no one to shut up, and I do not believe I said that about Goku.

I simply give my opinion, and although I do not think Kristin Kreuk is a horrible pick - I would have preferred someone else.

I am not that concerned to be honest, my hopes are set as low as can be for this project.

Well thats it! It is offical this movie is on my SHIT METER for suckiness. The the hell is wrong with Hollywod now a days? Did we all of a sudden jump 45 years in the past where if a movie had a character of diffrent ethnticity then they still hire a white actor or actress to play them only to say in the film that the character is African or Asian. This actress looks way to white to be playing a 100% chinese female with thighs that can double as jaws of life. I havent been this pissed about a racial mis-cast since Daredevil. Sure I can also count Memories of a Geshia but at least a chinese actress fooled some dumb asses to thinking she was Japanese. I know that there no one that will accept this women as chun-li. Street Fighter the movie at least had a women that was chinese in it. What they trying to do? Do they want to make a crappier movie that the first SF?

Grave how can you actually start judging a film if you haven’t seen it yet! Well any ways I think she is ok for the part and I seen her show some great potential in er acting. Kristin Kreuk in my opiinion is really beautiful especially having the right mixture of being half Asian and Half white…..Alriiggght( Like Quagmire from family guy…lol)

Chun-Li has huge titties, Kristin needs to eat.

i wish the authors on this site would stop replying with the old “i just gave my opinion” bull shit. can’t you lot start growing a pair and tell people to just fuck off and say “this is what i reported, fuck you!” rather than a meek “ooh, it’s my opinion, i’m not a movie critic” which thereby gives you opinion no critical credence whatsovever.

  12. doug nagy

If growing a pair means being rude to our readers then I will gladly keep my vagina.

This is an opinion site primarily, but I consider myself a critic when I do reviews, because I am being paid to do so.

KK is way too caucasian to be playing Chun-Li who isn’t supposed to be eurasian. I honestly think think they picked her simply because they think her name will be more known to young adults.

  14. chris (the real one)

    god i hate hollywood….

    @ MASTERMIND

I guess you didnt see the point I was making. This women doesnt look chinese, she looks more caucasian then chinese. Chun-Li is full chinese, she was born and rasied in China. She not half chinese, half white. It reminds me of Daredevil where the someone thought Kingpin should be black when the character was white. Also I mention that in the first SF movie they had a real chinese women that looked chinese. Most of the characters were well represented, Ryu, Chun-Li, Vega, Dalsim, Sagat, All fairly represented by look, an ethnicity. 45 years ago in American movies anytime there was person of diffrent ethincity it would most likly be played by a white guy.

Hey guys, don’t forget: Kristen was in another movie already. It might not have been the starring role (probably to her benefit considering how crap the movie was), but in Eurotrip, her character’s promiscuous activities (slyly implied later in the movie) were what “Scotty Doesn’t Know” about.

I find it interesting that her look is the big hang-up for you guys. The biggest thing I’m worried about is if Ms. Kreuk has received any decent martial arts training. Put simply, she ain’t Chun-Li if she don’t kick. I want to see wallsprings, bounce-off-the-baddies’-head kicks, flip kicks, and an at least plausible rendition of both the Lightning Leg Kick and the Spinning Bird Kick. Otherwise, she could be a perfect flesh-and-blood copy of the character, but again-If she can’t kick, that ain’t Chun-Li.

What do you all know about what kind of training she’s received for the film?

    @ ARROGNCE

Im sorry I dont mean this to be a racial issue but this is un-exceptable. Chun-Li is and has been for many years Chinese. How would fans reacted is Mario or Lara Croft was played by an african american? How about If Hollywood casted in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story a caucasian lead actor in stead of a guy of asian decent. Fans would not except in no way that movie.
