First Blood Re-Release

Fuckin’ right! it appears that Rambo First Blood will be re-released for a limited run in theaters! We get this kick ass news thanks to our good friends at slashfilm:

On May 15th, Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo will die for the first time on the big screen in 430-plus theaters around the country. Yes, 1982’s First Blood will have a digitally re-mastered one-off showing complete with the alternative ending that, in a parallel dimension, left no sequels…and probably no Slashfilm. I kid. Included in the screening is a special “never before seen” interview with Stallone in which he’ll extend his arms countless times to emphasize the film’s “epic” creation and grin somewhat painfully while reminiscing, I imagine. We’ve pasted all gazillion of the participating theaters after the jump because we like ya. And click here for more info.

I loathe the amount of remakes that are coming down the pipe; just like all of you. For quite some time I have been pleading with the winds that they re-release the films as an alternate option, so it brings me great joy to see them test the waters with a limited theatrical re-release of First Blood.

If the numbers are good, I sincerely hope that we will see more classics re-released rather than being remade into shitty films. There are scads of beloved classic films that could stand a rerelease; I welcome this news and hope First Blood starts a trend!

International friends - what films would you like to see re-released?

Hmmm, it would be a blast to see First Blood on the big screen, BUT…

..as we saw with the Poltergeist screening a few months back, the companies and theaters seem to screw these up with ill-fitting prints and poor presentations.

In addition, these re-releases also tend to be one-shot deals, during the week, so it’s tough to get to them if one is especially busy.

Also…that alternate ending…well, sucks. If you want, you can catch it on the dvd. The original ending is so much better.

I would like to see John Carpenter’s The Thing on the big screen. That would be a great revival to start with….

EDIT: I was just reading one of the commenters over at slashfilm and he confirmed my fears:

    “Scott Perry Says:

    April 30th, 2008 at 10:01 pm

I am warning everyone, this event is run by Fathom events.

They butchered the one-night showing of “Poltergeist” in October of 2007.

The audio was quiet, the picture was pixelated, it was in FULL SCREEN and the movie was BROADCASTED BY SATELLITE!

I’m sorry ,but digital satellite projection does not replace 35mm.

I’m just warning everyone before they slap $10 to this event. I wouldn’t say anything if the event was $2 for a projected DVD showing ,but considering $10, its worth buying the dvds instead.”

If this is true, then screw that noise….

My Gawd wtf is the world of cinema coming to?

I saw this dvd for 4.99 the other day new and even then I thought, “wow that’s overpriced”.

Die Hard - 20 year anniversary. Nice and loud in digital projection. Show some of today’s directors what an action movie is really all about. And it definitely still holds up today.
