9 Minute Promo Reel Of Red Cliff

By Doug - May 26, 2008 - 07:26 America/Montreal

We have a new 9 minute clip today for John Woo’s historical battle epic Red Cliff! We get the following clip and film info from our friends at slashfilm:

Over the weekend a 9-minute Cannes promo reel for John Woo’s Red Cliff showed up online. The 4-hour 2-episode $80 million epic adaptation of The Battle of Red Cliffs is the biggest budget Chinese film ever to be greenlit. Red Cliff stars Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Zhang Fengyi, Chang Chen, Hu Jun, Lin Chi-ling and Zhao Wei.

I like John Woo’s work and I am pumped to see his skills put to work in an epic 2 part war film with swords, spears and arrows. No word is out yet when this film will make it to North America, but we will continue to scour the web for information regarding its release. I love a good epic, and this one looks like it has the potential to be outstanding.

If it is the best 9 minutes, it is going to be a very long film. Westerners may need to do some research about the tactics used by Zhugi Liang in the film before watching it. Hope John Woo won’t be ruined by big money from China this time. An other grand project by China to raise national pride.
