Marcus Dunstan talks Midnight Man

Marcus Dunstan and partner Patrick Melton got their break with Project Greenlight to do Feast, then went on to other films like SawIV, and are now reteaming for Dimension films to bring us Midnight Man. This film will feature an excon trying to steal some jewel from an upperclass mansion that has been boobytrapped by a psycho killer who also has the excon’s family hostage.

If that doesn’t sum up the movie, Shock Till You Drop quotes Dunstan explaining the feel better:

“The first half of the movie is absolutely a thriller and then a horror movie literally unlocks the door and starts knocking everybody down,” he says. “Two movies collide at the dead center. So, we’re also coming up with a meditative Thief vibe and allowing that to run into the Tooth Fairy from Manhunter. Then shit goes bad.”

I like how they are blending genres to try and come up with something unique. Its a rare quality for people to try something new instead of simply writing a 17th sequel to a Land Before Time or just changing the ethnicity of the primary actors in an 80s movie and releasing it like its new.

From the sound of the interview, this film does look to be interesting and I will be keeping an eye out for it.
