It appears Homo Erectus (a film that wrapped in 2005) will be getting a theatrical release through National Lampoon. We get word of this news from our friends at cinematical:

Have you been wondering what happened to Adam Rifkin’s caveman comedy Homo Erectus? I’ve been curious about the fate of the film since it was shot here in Austin back in 2005. Rifkin not only wrote and directed Homo Erectus, but also stars as a “philosophical caveman” yearning for a better life. Other well-known actors appearing in the credits include David Carradine and Talia Shire. (Oh, yeah, and Ron Jeremy.) The film premiered at Slamdance in early 2007, then vanished until last June, when National Lampoon picked up the distribution rights. Now, according to Austin Movie Blog (part of the Austin American-Statesman site), National Lampoon has finally decided to let the rest of us see this movie.

National Lampoon’s Homo Erectus, as it seems to now be called, will be released in U.S. theaters in stages starting next month, with a DVD release slated for September.

I have no knowledge of this film other than what I have read above. David Carradine as a caveman could be pretty awesome however; this casting alone will probably drag me to the theatre. I loved the guy in Kill Bill and hope to see him in other pictures. He is an elder for the ages.

It appears that Adam Rifkin wrote, directed and starred in this production; this film is the evolution of Rifkin for all to see. We can check this out in theaters shortly and/or wait just a few months for it to be released on DVD. 70 IMDB readers currently rate this film at 3.5/10. That rating along with the film hanging in limbo doesn’t cause my hopes to be too high for this one.
