The Macho Movie Review: Cleopatra’s Daughter

My friend Wintle bought me a 50 pack of Sword And Sandal films before I left for Hollywood. He then bought a pack for himself, and we began discussion about going through the series together. Soon after we decided to share our journey with all of you; and thus the Macho Movie Review was born.

Over the next 50 weeks, we plan to have a short podcast for you discussing the Macho Movie of the week. We will be going through the Warriors Movie Pack made available through Mill Creek Entertainment. You can find the set for about 20-30 USD. We encourage all interested to buy the pack, and/or download the films that are public domain.

The Rating System: To go with the theme we will be rating the films out of 9. The hydra has 9 heads, so we will be giving each film a rating out of that number - and will post a picture. For those of you that wish to skip the podcast and are not that keen on buying the set - keep an eye on the hydra. If you you see a film with 7-9 Hydra heads - you may want to track that particular film down.

Today Wintle and I discuss the seventh film in the series: Cleopatra’s Daughter

Plot synopsis from IMDB: The beautiful young Sushila (Debra Paget) is forced into a political marriage with young Pharaoh Nemorat in order to consolidate power. However, the young Pharaoh is beset with mental illness and the marriage becomes dangerous, all the while the chief advisor Kefren (a menacing Erno Crisa) and his scheming mistress plot to destroy the unstable pair. The girl is framed for an attempt on the vulnerable king’s life and sentenced to death. Meanwhile, her sympathetic would-be lover, the handsome physician Resi (Ettore Manni) concocts a scheme to save her by drugging her to appear dead and reviving her later when they can escape. However, she is sealed into her former young husband’s tomb with the air supply rapidly running out.

This film is the first in the series to be terribly out of place; and we have never seen so many Hydra Heads on the floor! For those of you following along with us in the series please share your thoughts in the comments section!

Ladies and Gentlemen; it is my great pleasure to present our review of Cleopatra’s Daughter:

    hey,

you guys should review 10,000 BC and Doomsday. Those might not seem like good movies, but i still want to hear a review.

We’ve considered discussing current movies that would fit within the Macho Movie Review. My concern was that it may overlap with regular Movie Blog coverage. I can’t expect that Nagy would want to revisit certain movies a second time. Also, we record a few weeks ahead of time to keep to a regular schedule even when something comes up (like Nagy’s recent trip to SXSW), so our reviews would get to you a few weeks late.

    Wintle,
I was talking to themovieblog guys (John and Doug), sorry for the confusion there. 10,000 BC and Doomsday seem like the type of movies that themovieblog would be talking about, so i’m curious why it wasn’t reviewed.

John saw it and should put up a review shortly, we just got back from Texas (SXSW) and have been busy as a result.
