Arthur C Clarke dies at 90
Arthur C. Clarke was one of the most influential writers in SciFi and I have had more than one of his books in my backpack through highschool. Its a sad day indeed that this man has left us. He lead a full life and wil be immortalized in them.
MTV Moviesblog says:
For the literary and film communities, Clarke’s death is a sad occasion. In novels like “Rendezvous with Rama,” “Childhood’s End,” and, especially, “2001: A Space Odyssey” (which he co-wrote with director Stanley Kubrick), Clarke found ways to elevate the genre - to transcend its pulp origins from trade-stand paperbacks to literary works of art.
He was 90 years old and was writing right til the end.

As an amateur science fiction writer myself I cannot say that Clarke has not, in some way, influenced my work. The entire Rama series was excellent along with 2001 and 2010 and were in my backpack at least once during my High School years.
I’d have to say that Arthur C. Clarke ranks as one of my favorite writers, possibly only Issac Asimov beats him on that list, and while it’s sad to see his passing I know that his spirit shall live on in his work and all those he has influenced to take up a pen and write their own fantastic stories of future possibilities.

I never read one of his books or liked ethier film I saw but I will still acknowledge this man as a true legend of sci-fi his influence can be seen all throughout the film. I wish him god speed and may he be in heaven 1/2 an hour before the devil knows he’s dead

Growing up in the mid-60’s he was one of the mainstays of my early science fiction library. Ray Bradbury, James Blish, Fredric Brown, A.E. Van Vogt and the esteemed Arthur C. Clarke fed my young appetite for the wonder of space exploration and the possibilities held there. Their words were the music to the early Mercury and Apollo missions. May his new journey among the stars be as fruitful as the legacy he left us!

This guy was admittedly my favorite science fiction writer. The 2001 series and the Rama series were staples of my childhood. He is going to be sorely missed. After Ray Bradbury, Issac Asimov and himself we are going to be hard-pressed to find a writer of such caliber for a very long time…if ever
