Child’s Play Remake

Chucky-RemakeI became desensitized to standard “horror” movies at a pretty young age. By “standard” I mean the most basic slasher killer films. Jason, Freddy ect. ect. Don’t get me wrong, I still ENJOYED them, but then didn’t scar me anymore or creep me out in the least (a good example of that now is the new film “Hatchet”, which is a lot of fun, but doesn’t scare me for a moment).

But Chucky in Child’s play was a little bit of a different story. The killing didn’t freak me out…. but the fact that the dude was a doll. There is something inherently creepy to me about things that are supposed to represent innocence that then go whacky. Little kids in horror movies like The Grudge (Asian version) still creep me out for that very reason… and so, Chucky (being a doll) did too.

With Rom Zombie’s Halloween making some coin, you knew that it wouldn’t be long before the floodgates of horror remakes got thrown open full tilt… and it looks like Child’s Play may be the next horror remake up to plate. Our friend’s over at FirstShowing give us this:

While talking with David Kirschner this weekend, one of the producers of the upcoming John Cusack film Martian Child, he revealed that they are working on another Child’s Play sequel, but it would instead be a remake of the first Child’s Play.

First things first, David Kirschner is the producer behind all five of the currently released Child’s Play movies. He produced the first one and even the latest one, Seed of Chucky. Secondly, he also said that the same screenwriter who came up with the original Chucky story, Don Mancini, and who wrote all five of them is working on this one as well.

Now I think I’ll probably be in the minority here… but if you’re going to remake a property… I think you might as well bring in fresh blood to do it. I know most people will actually prefer the idea of the original writer doing the script again… but to me it then begs the question about why do it at all. If you’re going to revisit it, then bring in new eyes, a new imagination… someone who will look at it differently enough to warrant a remake. Otherwise just leave it alone as it is.

But what do you think? Would you be up for a Child’s Play remake? Is it odd to remake it when the franchise just had another installment come out like 8 years ago?

The reason for a remake is the sheer fact that a lot of true Child’s Play fans are upset about the current horror/comedy path that the film has traveled. The fans want to see Chucky scary again, like in the original. So with the first producer and first creater coming together, they plan on not making another sequile but rather re-making the original Child’s Play, scarier. They were even able to get the original voice of Chucky to come back and set the mood, if you will. I, for one, am happy to see this movie come to light. I am a fan of Chucky, Jason, Fredy etc. but am disappointed in all the “new” scary movies that have come out. Also very disappointed in the remakes of Holloween and Freddy. This is why i am glad to see the original cast come back together.

ok after i started looking at everyone’s comments they became alot like movies these days…THEYRE ALL THE SAME! there was 3 or 4 of you who were up for the idea of a Childs Play remake. Now Chucky is a different slasher. Sure he has a backstory like Jason and Freddy. But Freddy and Jason just arent as real. Dolls all have some sort of creepy place in people’s minds. now i cant stand it when everyone says that Bride of Chucky was the beginning of the end, thats a total load of…shit! I like Bride so much cuz it still had a very dark tone and feel to it. the only thing thatppl dont like is that he developed a sense of humor. now childs play 3 was VERY dry! it was so….idk! Bride was only good due to the director. He accomplished what the idiots that made alien vs predator couldnt. he brought 2 great icons to the screen and pitted them against each other andm ade it good. He did the same thing with bride. a remake is a good idea….which is the point i meant to get to long ago!

I think it’s absurd that they would consider remaking this movie. I am 24 yrs old and chucky is my favorite super villian. he scared the s@#$ out of me then and still does now. My opinion is they should focus on a prequel and the guy who became chucky. It could be “THE BIRTH OF CHUCKY”.

To me Chucky doesn’t need a remake and if this will happen Brad Dourif should be the voice cause he’s the master of Chucky’s character i do like Freddy, Jason, and Michael’s remakes but Chucky doesn’t need one it dont make no damn sense they can touch freddy, j, and mike but dont mess with Child’s play i’d rather see a continuation of the Chucky films.

Alright anyone that left a comment agreeing to the remake i love you guys.i see that some of you said there is no point in the child’s play movies. ok dont get me wrong about freddy and jason i love the movies, but but you got a guy in a hockey mask comming back everytime to just kill some teens fucking in his cabins lol. yea yea a counselor killed his mom but jesus there are 40 movies for both freddy and jason. when is that gonna stop, i agree that seed of chucky was shit but they all have great understanding. i was born in 1989 and when i was old enough to watch and remember the original chucky i was scared shitless, could not even sleep alone without thinkin about my buddy doll comming alive lol. so to hear the latest new about this remake brad dourif will return as the voice and charles lee ray himself and jennifer tilly will be in a cameo. a little more history about charles lee ray will be added but nothing like rob zombie’s halloween, just kinda of a extended beginning. the same story will be there you know little andy and karen barclay but from what i heard from don mancini and david kirshner, lets say you know whats comming because you know the original movie, you just got a rug pulled out from under you. the deaths are gonna be different and chucky is gettin a make-over. not just you know gettin rid of the scars but from the chucky we seen in 1,2,3 this one is gonna make you shit your pants. oh and no cg all puppeters will be the comming to life of chucky..like i said the origin of the story is gonna be there just some twist and turns that the audience are gonna love..all this was said to me by mancini and kirshner the script has been written and they are at terms with universal right now and will be out this fall..this movie is gonna be amazing, its really gonna give the toddlers of this generation a taste of what we got when we fisrt seen this hit the seen
