Oscar Ballots Have Been Mailed

Oscar-StatIt’s that time of year again! Yesterday, thousands of nominations were mailed to the Academy members, which let’s us know that in just a few weeks, people will be gathered around the water cooler at their work, discussing this year’s…(oops, I should still say ‘next year’s) Oscar Nominees.

Yahoo!News gives us this:

Accountants from PricewaterhouseCoopers counted, sorted and numbered the ballots before the massive mail-out. Voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have until Jan. 12, 2008, to return the forms.

Nominees for the 80th annual Academy Awards will be announced Jan. 22. The awards will be presented Feb. 24 at the Kodak Theatre.

Despite the writer’s strike, it seems that the biggest award ceremony will still go on. This will definitely be a show I will be watching, because it will either be fantastic or it will be a total and utter mess. (I don’t want to miss that!)

So, let’s pretend you readers are members of the Academy. Who would YOU nominate and what are your predictions?

  2. Max McCormick

Well, as far as actor goes, Daniel Day Lewis most definitely. He is one of my favoitre actors. And I think that this is going to really be his next oscar after the mindblowing “My Left Foot” in 1988.

  3. Kristina

FUCK Atonement. FUCK it. Fuck it right up the ass. I’m so sick of people heaping praise on that thing while ignoring and underrating good shit like 3:10 to Yuma, Eastern Promises…hell, I’d put The Lookout on the list before Atonement. I haven’t seen There Will Be Blood yet(not playing here until early next year) and Juno finally opens here tomorow. Of all the films I’ve seen this year, I’d give the big prize to No Country For Old Men.

If Javier Bardem does not win best supporting actor, I’ll riot. I don’t have a strong personal favorite in any other category, but he just HAS to win. He has to.

  4. Kristina

And Serena, no writers=no monologues=no overlong segments=shorter show=a MUCH BETTER, much shorter show. I hope the strike continues just long enough for me to see an hourlong Oscar show. That shit would rule.

I’m too damned lazy to care about writing out anything other than my faves for Best Picture and Best Screenplay:

    Best Picture

    Eastern Promises
The Assassination of Jesse James (by the Coward Robert Ford)
    Breach
    Once
    Elizabeth: The Golden Age

    Best Screenplay

    Lust/Caution
    Sunshine
    Rescue Dawn
    There Will Be Blood
    3:10 To Yuma
