Freddy vs Jason 2

If you thought the fight between the two most infamous killers in the horror genre is over, think again. It seems that New Line Cinema is planning on working on the sequel to the 2003 horror film.

Moviehole.net via Bloody-Disgusting gives us this:

“The details I have are extremely slim, but from my understanding there is still no script - and because of the WGA strike this means the big battle won’t be coming anytime soon. I believe the studio is planning on moving on a sequel, which pits Freddy Krueger against Jason Voorhees, as soon as the strike ends, but nothing is set in stone. I guess you can say this news is a little premature, but the fact that New Line wants to get the sequel going is important in my book. It would be great to see the two go head-to-head once more right after the Friday remake hits theaters, I’m sick of waiting five years for each franchise to continue.”

This news is exactly why I was not looking forward to the upcoming ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ and ‘Friday the 13th’ remakes. Why remake two franchises that AREN’T dead in the first place? People thought this of ‘Rob Zombie’s Halloween’ this year, but I had no problem with that remake. The ‘Halloween’ series was dead in my eyes once I saw the lead heroine, Jamie Lee Curtis get killed effortlessly in the first ten minutes, and when Busta Rhymes ninja kicked Michael Myers in the face in the last installment. The series was in NEED of a reboot.

‘Freddy vs Jason’ was a box office hit, and even though it was not worth the ten year wait since fanboys/girls saw Freddy’s glove emerge from the ground at the end of ‘Jason goes to Hell,’ it still made people talk, and all these rumors and speculations we have heard over the past four years about a potential sequel would not be happening if the fans weren’t expecting (and wanting) another gruesome battle between the two villains.

So am I alone on this issue? Am I the only one who thinks remaking these classic franchises is a little premature? Tell me what you think.

execs need to fuck off with the remakes and start reading more books.

there is endless source material in the world. they need to get off of their lazy asses and find it.

  2. How is making a movie from a pre-existing book any less lazy that doing it from another source?

There is endless source material in the world, but that would require effort and judging from all of the remakes being discussed, they are perfectly content to sit on their asses and churn out the same shit year after year. And they should. Why? People will go see theses remakes when they open thus proving the execs right in thier thinking and preventing original ideas to enter the world. We, the movie-going public, have the final and only say in what gets made, so hold back your money from them come opening weekend.

what i mean by that statment is that if you can’t come up with an idea for a movie, just walk into a bookstore.

you will immediatly be presented with tens of thousands of fully fleshed out stories.

    whoops…i dind’t answer your question.

i would think that someone going ‘oh fuck, let’s remake jason’ has put less effort into an idea then someone who has gone through a stack of stories and gone ‘oh fuck, this story rules.’

Well Im a big Fan of both Friday and Nightmare series. Some movies were good some were bad. However I think the Friday seies such as the first four films look very dried up. I have no problem if they do a remake of Friday. Nightmare on the other hand still is creepy to this day and the rest of the films are not as bad. Sure it statred to become less scary for more laughs but its still fun to watch. Now if Wes Craven is on board to Direct and Write because he feels that Nightmare in 1985 was not as good as it could have been then I say “Go for it Wes!” But if Wes is out and makes a statement that he thinks his film was fine as is then I hope they drop it. Loved Jason vs Freddy thou. It turned out better than I expected. I dont know what fans are complaining about.

What happened to Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash

    The comic book is AWESOME!

  8. Robert(wolf)

I loved Jason Vs Freddy! Better see a number 2. Also I never knew about the glove popping up at the end of Jason goes to hell :o

One thing is for sure: Fuck heroes, this film needs a clear cut (pun) winner, and more fighting!

I don’t mind Friday getting remade, but if there’s going to be Freddy vs. Jason 2, a remake needs to wait…

    NIGHTMARE REMAKE~!? Oh **********************!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, Grave. If Wes wanted to go for it, no problem, its his baby. But by anyone else, no. Sorry, but I can’t see anyone but Wes doing this. Either way, I think an Elm Street remake is pretty much pointless. Now the original is timeless. Plus, Johnny Depp made his movie debut there, and Freddy owns.

Btw, Freddy got jipped in his last fight with Jason. The Springwood Slasher is my pick for winner!

  10. Grave

Now, Now, Dark….We all know that no one truly one the fight which is why its time for round 2. I think Ed Boon creator of Mortal Kombat should watch this movie so he can make some good fatalities for a change. I mean really the past 3 games the fatalities were so crappy. Oh if anyone intrested go check out The Angry VideoGame Nerds reviews of Friday and Nightmare games on Nintendo their hilarious. You can find them on gametrailers.com and/or Youtube.

I also think it’s a nutty idea to remake franchises that aren’t dead. Friday got close, but was revived due to the bogeyman showdown.

It’s even more screwed if a remake is being done, yet something like ‘Freddy vs Jason’ is considered canon. Old Jason, New Jason. Maybe we’ll even see a return of copycat Jason. Who knows. But why drive folks into madness?

All I want to know is where’s the remake of My Bloody Valentine. Just gimmie that, I’ll be happy.

You all know how I feel about Freddy vs Jason vs Ash. (Not good)

    *************

Yo Serena…the worst part about ‘Halloween: Ressurection” is in the DVD bonus features. In a behind the scenes interview, one of the new actresses said how great it was was working with Jamie Lee Curtis. This was an odd statement, since they stupidly killed off Laurie once and for all (”and the fans cheered!” sayeth Rick Rosenthal’s commentary…) in the opening reel.

Why was Busta in the film? Rick’s kids are among Busta’s fans.

The best scene in Halloween Res? BSG’s future Starbuck gets decapitated. lol.

  12. DarkKinger

I know there was no true winner, which is the reason why I said “Fuck heroes!” That’s why I said Freddy got jipped, because teens got involved to save Jason, then the plot went for the predictable ‘Humans side with the winner to save the world’ outcome that brought down AVP for me (Aliens should’ve won, DAMMIT!). As for the sequel, Freddy gets his redemption against that hockey-mask punk.

Btw, I saw those videos from The Angry Video Game Nerd. I love it when he rips shitty games a new one! Wait until he reviews E.T. one day.

  13. Pablo

I liked the first one. People here whine too much!
