Cloverfield is going to be the name of Cloverfield

It looks like the movie that was code named Cloverfield will be called just that. We get the information from the quality people at movieweb:

As reported by several moviegoers who have attended advanced screenings of Beowulf, the trailer for the JJ Abrams flick finally reveals it’s official title in this new full-length version.

Matt Reeves directs the “giant monster movie” which is shot using home video cameras from the point of view of real people who are experiencing the attack on New York City

I enjoy big monsters, and am especially fond of giant monsters. I am not sure how many baddies are in this movie, but I hope we get to see a smattering of other-worldy behemoths wreaking havoc upon our tender earth. I want to see tentacles, beaks and truckloads of mucus.

I have been teased well by the marketing campaign and this is certainly one of the films I look forward to in the fresh new year. With a release date of January 18, 2008 we are closing in on monster day and I hope they reward us with a bludgeoning of the senses. It is important to realize how small we are in the grand scheme of things, and nothing drives this home more than a Cthuloid monster that treats us like insects!

Lessons of humility through maximum violence.

  1. What I find MOST interesting is the “it’s alive” line…

Obviously they KNOW what is attacking them and are quite familiar with it, because they’re surprised it (whatever “it” is) is alive…as if somehow “it” wouldn’t be.

So IF this is a foreign type of monster…that line would make no sense. I just hope we actually find out what “it” is and we actually get some shots of it, instead of just outlines/shapes/blurs.

  2. If Lovecraft’s Ancient Ones did come out of the dirt to see the planet, the’d see the advertising of this film and go back to under the ancient runes from which they came.

    Cloverfield is Cloverfu**ed

  3. The hand cam approach is damaging my calm about this movie. I would like to see the monster, not the shaky outline of said monster.

My 24 hour rule will be in effect for the premier weekend.

  4. Ah I cant wait for this flick. Looks pretty badass, I like the hand held cameras part too. We’ll see how it plays out. Hopefull its not a dud.

  5. Screw this movie. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I like getting at least a teeny bit of info regarding a movie I’m about to watch, so me no watchy ’till I read a review.
Give a dog a bone, man!

  6. It seems like a smart move since that’s what we’ve all been calling the film. But i still think it’s going to be the next ‘snakes on a plane’ and it’s getting nowhere near the same amount of buzz.

On a side note, Cloverfield sounds like a brand of butter to anyone in the UK. If it’s supposed to be a classic monster movie, give it a classic monster title. I would suggest “Aaaaah real monsters” but i believe that was a cartoon once.

  7. Ya know speking of Cthilu I hear they’re going to make a movie out of the Mountains of Madness. Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn!

  8. Ok well there seems to be new trailer already but it is very poor quality. From what I’ve read the new one might appear with Beowulf and come out on the internet on monday.

I don’t know if that link is will be working for long but the video is there. It doesn’t show much more than what the teaser showed.

  9. Are people still hyped about this movie? I mean the last time we saw something for this film was back when Transformers was released and now were almost at the release date and there is nothing going on with it.

I still think that this movie is going to be bad…as in terrible. The release date strikes me as odd because the month of January is known for being a garbage month for movies. The NFL playoffs are also underway during that month and most people are glued to the TV set watching the games instead of going to the movies.

I really don’t see why they have that release date…of course not all movies are bad when they are released during that month or at least one of those dreadful movie months.

  10. I think what I would like to see, is several movies, each with a different director, different cast etc, but each deals with Cthulu type monsters so that they are not sequels per-se, but are somehow all related.

  11. This thing has fallen completely off my radar. They need to stop fucking around if they want this flick to make any money. Who goes to see a movie tht they’ve got no clue about?
