Jessica Biel Turns Down ‘Wonder Woman’ Role

jessica-biel-1.jpgFor those who were excited by the news Rodney posted the other day about Jessica Biel being cast as Wonder Woman in the new ‘Justice League’ film, I have some bad news. It seems that Miss Biel has pulled out of the project last minute.

MovieHole gives us this:

EW doesn’t actually state why Biel decided – at what’s seemingly the 11th hour – not to take on the role after all (despite the trades announcing she was as good as locked for the part), but it should please those die-hard “Wonder Woman” fans who’ve been writing into us like typing’s going out of style complaining about the casting decision.

Hmm…I wonder why she didn’t want to do the project? Was the pay cheque going to be small? Was she not interested in sharing screen time with many other superheroes? Or did she realize this movie is destined for disaster? (My guess is all of the above)

Well, if it makes you upset that she won’t be in it, I know something that will probably upset you guys even more. According to IESB.net, the rapper T.I. has recently read for the role of ‘The Green Lantern.’ Now how do you guys feel about that?

Maybe Halle Berry called her up and said ‘remember when I did Catwoman?’ ;)

T.I? I read some where Tyres Gibson was reading for Lanter.

I take it then, they are using “John Stewart” as their Lantern? Well, that sucks. IMO, Hal Jordan is definitely the way to go. He is the classic Lantern, and if they do actually pull off this movie, his character should be the one to get the “fame”. I would choose Kyle Rayner as a second. And probably even Guy Gardner as third before i went with Stewart. He is my least favorite. He worked out OK on the JLU cartoon though. I love him as part of the GL Corps, just not if the whole origin is based on him. He’s just not interesting enough on his own. (In comic continuity he did become VERY cool, but that was due to legnthy character development which included Hal and other alien Lanterns in the Corps. I just dont see them going into that level of detail in this JL movie…) Not to sound controversial, but they are probably just using Stewart in order to increase the number of minority characters in the movie. And since there have been several GLs, they have that option.

That being said, if they do indeed pick Stewart as Green Lantern, “T.I.” looks the part pretty well. The question is, can he act? (Well.)

I’m a little disappointed. I really would have liked seeing her dressed in the wonder woman outfit. Hooboy. Nice.

(I’m not really adding anything important to the topic. I’m just simply agreeing with Jim W.)

I really don’t think picking Stewart as the G.L. for the movie is a good idea. Although I did enjoy him in the animated series, having him in this huge film would just be a dissapointment. A lot of people were angry when he was chosen them, and I’m sure people will feel the same for this. I just think Hal Jordan is the right way to go.

Oliva Munn for Wonder Woman anyone?

i would of been all over biel as wonder woman, this is a shame.

    ….

maybe i should shorten that to ‘i would be all over biel’.

I knew it wasn’t gonna happen.

never read many d/c comics. before the animated series, i had no idea john stewart existed in the gl corp. i enjoyed him in the cartoon. i have no problem with him in the movie. when all these characters were created black characters were unheard of and avoided. today, i think it cool that they are diversifying the cast. i guess that’s my black-power statement. anyway, i don’t know much about ti’s acting skills but tyrese is proven to be a decent actor. i’d go with tyrese. jessica biel, althought super hot & a decent actress, just did not fit the amazon warrior mold. they need a taller lady. in all i think this movie will suck big time, jessica probably saw that and said “hell no!”

I’m bummed, but then again, you know that the script for this has to be a giant clusterfuck with all of those people running around. Maybe she took a look at the X-Men franchise and realized that she’d be playing wallpaper much like Storm, or even Colossus did in those films. She probably thinks that she’s too big a “star” to accept such a tiny role in a major film, but JEss, if this is your reasoning(which I understand to a degree), just remember: how many films have you headlined that opened number 1? I’m not talking co-star, I’m talking your name was the first on the poster, honey. How many of those went to #1? The only one that comes to my mind is the Leatherface Adventure, but that film’s success can’t be attributed to you. That thing had name recognition, so you can’t be congratulated for that. For a supposed “A lister”, you’ve got a pretty weak resume, so if you’re turning this down, it must be REALLY shitty. At this point, you can’t afford to turn down high-profile stuff.

I think it is pretty much all the above like Serena said + one more: she wants to do more stuff like she did in ‘The Illusionist’. It’s funny- the other day when the “announcement” came that Biel “was” Diana, I pointed out in the comments section (go on, int’l friends, look it up) that she was in “talks”. Nothing was 100%. I actually didn’t think she’s take it. [Note: my vote still goes out to Naureen Zaim- folks, she's got the looks, she's a boxer, she skydives...she models...she's a rising actress...]

It was also mentioned in various places that rapper TI and Tyrese was being read for the Stewart Green Lantern. If it came down to these two guys, then it should be an actual actor getting the part…so it is in favor of the ‘Transformers’ actor. Personally, I’d much rather the Stewart Lantern- and any other GL’s- taken out of the story…and put all into a GL corps where *everyone* can share one timeline and all fans of GL through the ages can be satisfied. (In fact, the GG ‘ jacket’ culd be for everyone; Jordan’s rise, fall, and “transformation” arc would be a good story point too…)

But the biggest problem with JLA…is…uh…well, y’know something, folks?
    I’M DONE.

I’m Done talking about it. I refuse to talk about it anymore.

This week’s EW article on teh project was fairly positive. And we do remember the 3 successful X-Men films don’t we? What can’t there be a well-done DC Hero/Tema film? As with all great films it comes down to casting and THE WRITING! I say we wait and see….
As for the WW role, Kate Beckinsale asnyone? “Woof Ubermann Woof!”

In the words of Florida Evans…

    “damn.. Damn.. DAMN”

Biel would have been perfect for Wonder Woman… even though I really dont care about the character that much I still would have liked to see Biel take on the role. To be honest, I’d like to see Biel take on any role. Yummy doesnt even come close to describing my feelings for miss Biel… but it’s a start.

    P.S. -

for all you kids out there, that first bit was a reference to a TV show called Good Times.
It was on during the Seventies.
Now I know a lot of you probably dont know anything about the seventies other that what VHI’s “I Love The 70’s” has told you, but…
… anyway, anyone that was actually alive during that time period will get the reference.
