Here are some of the other movie related news items floating around the web today that you might be interested in:

- Newman from Seinfeld in talks to join Punisher movie This is not a good sign. Not that Wayne Knight isn’t a good comedic actor… but the fact that they would get him for it would suggest something about the movie’s direction.

- Sarah Paulson has joined the cast of “Will Eisner’s The Spirit”

- Batman crew member dies in film shoot “A crew member involved in the filming of the new Batman movie has died in a car accident on the set, police said on Tuesday. The special effects technician was killed when his 4×4 vehicle crashed into a tree during a dummy film run involving the “Batmobile.”

- Production wraps on Alone in the Dark 2 Hooray…. oh wait…

- More solid crew added to Wolverine “Oscar-nominated cinematographer Donald McAlpine has joined the production. growing crew of WOLVERINE! He’s worked on flicks from Peter Pan to Narnia to Predator to his Oscar nom on Moulin Rouge.”

- Eli Roth to Direct an Episode of Heroes: Origins Meh… I’m no longer much of a Roth fan… and after watching the sub-par Season premiere last night, I’m not as big of a Heroes fan anymore either

- Face/Off : Two-Disc Special Edition (DVD) This movie rules on so many silly levels

- Dominic West is Jigsaw in ‘Punisher: War Zone’ “Funny, I was expecting someone more well-known, but I guess with recent appearances in 300 and Hannibal Rising and a recurring part on the popular television series The Wire, West is still more famous than Cinderella Man’s Considine”

Dontthink i have disagreed with anyone this much ever. It was a great setup of what too come this volume.

This indicates a films direction? Huh? But if you didn’t know, he’s not the same guy you saw on Seinfeld. He’s lost tons of weight since then so he looks like a completely different guy.

    ummmm….what?

This was a GREAT set up for the 2nd season. I don’t agree with you on everything John, and I don’t expect to. I fully embrace the concept that people can respectfully disagree. But you’ve now given me real reason to suspect your taste…

  4. John Campea says:

Ok… why i didn’t like the Heroes Season 2 Premiere:

    1) Unlike the Season 1 premiere which clearly laid out the overall story arc for the season and set everything in motion (bomb is going to destroy city, must stop it), this one introduced what felt like 5 or 6 sub plots without one overall connecting purpose.

    2) Dad taking secret phone calls he excuses himself from dinner table from so thers can’t hear his conversation…. and family isn’t the LEAST bit suspicious considering his past and all he does now is work in a paper store? LAME.

    3) Nathan has picture plastered all over New York and wins an ellection… but 4 months and a beard later an no one recognizes him? LAME.

    4) Hiro’s Dad’s power never revealed… and he gets killed by just being pushed off a roof??? LAME.

    5) Bad guy in shadows looks just like Sylar’s bad guy in shadows with a hoodie. LAME.

    6) Little girl… worst… child… actress… EVER.

I could go on and on. My hope is that the second season will pick up and get better… but the season 2 opening is VASTLY inferior to the season 1 opening.

THIS IS THE WAY ACTUAL COMIC BOOKS WORK, JOHN. THE FIRST ISSUE OF A STORYLINE DOESN’T “LAY OUT” THE STORY ARC FOR THE NEXT 23 ISSUES. THE STORY UNFOLDS DYNAMICALLY WITHOUT US NEEDING THE PLOT SPOONFED TO US IN THE FIRST ISSUE. THE 5 OR 6 SUB PLOTS WILL INTERCONNECT LATER ON, I’M SURE. JUST WAIT FOR IT, IT WILL BE MORE SATISFYING THAT WAY.

    2) Dad taking secret phone calls he excuses himself from dinner table from so thers can’t hear his conversation…. and family isn’t the LEAST bit suspicious considering his past and all he does now is work in a paper store? LAME.

ARE YOU KIDDING? BOTH CLAIRE AND MRS. HRG GAVE HIM FUNNY LOOKS AS HE LEFT THE TABLE. AND SINCE HRG LIED JUST AS BADLY AS CLAIRE DID (AND IN THE SAME WAY) YOU KNOW EACH IS ONTO THE OTHER, JUST A LITTLE BIT…

    3) Nathan has picture plastered all over New York and wins an ellection… but 4 months and a beard later an no one recognizes him? LAME.

NATHAN WAS THE ABSOLUTE PICTURE OF POLITICAL IMAGERY UNTIL HIS “DISAPPEARANCE”. NOT A HAIR OUT OF PLACE (OR ON HIS FACE), AND HE NEVER WOULD HAVE BEEN FOUND DEAD IN THE BARS HE FREQUENTS NOW. IF ANYONE APPROACHED HIM WITH THE “HEY, AREN’T YOU…?” A BRUSQUE RESPONSE TOTALLY UNCHARASTERISTIC OF THE NATHAN PETRELLI THE PUBLIC KNEW WOULD KEEP THEM AT BAY. IF SUPERMAN CAN GET AWAY WITH THE “GLASSES DISGUISE” THEN NATHAN IS TOTALLY COVERED HERE.

    4) Hiro’s Dad’s power never revealed… and he gets killed by just being pushed off a roof??? LAME.

THE LIST OF SUPERHEROES WHO COULD BE KILLED IN THE SAME WAY: PROFESSOR X, CYCLOPS, ELEKTRA, IRON FIST, HAWKEYE, GREEN ARROW, PUNISHER…ALL STREET PIZZA LIKE HIRO’S DAD. AND SOME OTHERS SUCH AS CAPTAIN AMERICA, BATMAN HAVE WAYS OF SAVING THEMSELVES FROM A FALL, BUT IF THEY HIT THE GROUND THAT’S IT. HIRO’S DAD BITING IT THIS WAY KEEPS THE HEROES FROM SEEMING INVINCIBLE: UNTIMATELY SOME OF THEM ARE JUST AS VULNERABLE AS THE REST OF US.

    5) Bad guy in shadows looks just like Sylar’s bad guy in shadows with a hoodie. LAME.

THIS IS JUST SETTING UP THE BIG REVEAL LATER. BUT I AGREE THAT THE INITIAL SETUP COULD HAVE BEEN DONE BETTER.

    6) Little girl… worst… child… actress… EVER.

HARDLY AN EMMY WORTHY PERFORMANCE, BUT DUDE, THAT’S JUST HARSH….

  6. Ian C. says:

I’m a big fan of Dominic West, and thought he did a great job playing a guy worth hating in ‘300.’ So he should be a good choice to play Jigsaw. Although Considine seems like he could go batshit crazy, if the part called for it.

  7. Jeremy says:

Wow…I can’t believe you didn’t like the season premiere of Heroes.

Newman would make an excellent addition to the Punisher movie, especially if he plays MicroChip. :D

  8. chris says:

FUCK YEA FACE/OFF!!! finally a special edition, now all i need is the special edition of complete KILL BILL dvd and 2 disk Iron Giant and i;ll be happy

  9. Sound Designer Dan says:

I agree with John here, the season premiere was ass horrible. Molly annoyed the hell outta me and Sulu’s power was never shown….stupid…stupid…stupid. Hopefully, the show will get better or probably because the finale last season was so bad that it bled into this season.

P.S. the dude with the Irish accent at the end CANNOT do an Irish accent properly…..and the ADR was frickin’ horrible.

  10. AjaxLou says:

Season 1 started off slowly as well. Kryptonite please stop yelling.

  11. John in Seattle says:

The big thing I’m surprised at is that everyone just assumes Kaito N. is dead. True, he face-planted… but so did Claire. We know he has a power yet we don’t know what it is… It’s just odd everyone is so quick to write off the character.

And John, really gotta disagree with you. The writers have enough of my faith… I think you just got pulled into a few sucker punches that will be revealed in a few episodes.

Goal wasn’t to wrap up S1… it was to set up S2.. something they did admirably IMHO.

  12. PHIL from LI NY says:

John, I think your jumping the gun a litte. Sure it wasn’t a big bang season opener, but it was far from horrible. If you think its bad, thats fine… but if 1 bad episode ruins the entire series for you… thats taking it a little to far. I think your over reacting.

  13. melbye says:

About Newman, remember he was in Basic Instinct a completley diffrent role than on Seinfeld.

And again, the Heroes-opener was the best second season opener since the words “I’m gonna need a hacksaw” was uttered

  14. Darren j Seeley says:

I’m betting Hiro’s dad has a power which allows him to ‘revive’ after being dead within 24 hours (remember: in comics, nobody “stays dead” for long.) …and it is the season opener, so maybe not all the answers we seek will be right at the first ep of the new season. That said, it is *lame* to *not* conclude a cliffhanger in some fashion when *that’s what everyone is tuning in for*. By the way…@the CAPMAN aka KRYPTONITE: using your “passionate” arguement, is it safe to say it is not uncommon for comics to have cliffhangers that are resolved in the following issue? Also, you mentioned Iron Fist. At one point, Dan Rand was presumed “dead”. Nick Fury, who you didn’t mention, was clearly knocked off in comics several times, and is infamous for cheating death at nearly every turn. Superman came back from the dead. Jury’s still out on Cap’n America….

    Speaking of comics:
    1) Wayne Knight as Microchip and Dominic West as Jigsaw:
actually, I was crossing my fingers for Michael Keaton for Jigsaw; West is an interesting choice however. As far as Knight is concerned, he has shed the pounds over the years, he doesn’t look like he did in Seinfeld or Jurassic Park. The Mircochip character is a dumb character by the way. I think THAT’S what Gio meant, folks.

But if he meant comic relief, even the previous film had a little of that.
Besides, I’m more interested in seeing actor Doug Hutchison as Looney Bin Jim. Hutchison, of course, is best known for playing Tooms in the X-Files and Percy in Green Mile.

    ****

    Batman/Dark Knight:
it is currently being said that the accidental death occured off-set.

    ****

    Face Off :Special Ed. DVD.
You mean I have to buy this again? Let’s see what the extras are. I’m also curious as what that second disc is all about. How they did the boat chase?

    ****

    Eli Roth on Heroes Origins.
Kind of like the hype with Quentin Tarintino directing an ER episode. They do a good job. So what? Besides, it should be noted Roth is restricted by television. But I also…wonder…is one of the ‘new batch’ going to be something like, say, Swamp Thing /Man-Thing/Heap?
    Dark Horse’s Concrete?

    We shall see.

    ****

    Alone In The Dark 2.
Hey, *someone* out there, Gio…is doing this for the money. Remember that! Yes, even whores have to live too…

  15. Cinéfan says:

    “Newman from Seinfeld”

    That is really ironic!!?!

JUST last night I was watching Seinfeld and it was the episode where Newman and Kramer are headed to Michigan to get a better return on their recycling deposit.

Anyway, there’s that scene after Kramer kicks him out of the mail-truck, to catch up with the mechanic who took Jerry’s car…and as Newman was stumbling up the hill, headed to the farmer’s (…and daughter’s) house; I was thinking: “Gee…he looks just like he did in Jurassic Park…fumbling to get off-of the island with the embryos!?”

And then, I continued to think about what other roles he could possible play-well, without that goofy, annoying, guy-you-want-to-punch-in-the-face attitude…

Guess, I’ll have to check out Punisher…(like I wasn’t going to already, anyway…).

  16. Kryptonite says:

I wasn’t yelling. I had to put my stuff in CAPS to make it easier to read vs. John’s comments. It was a legibility issue, nothing more.
