Good to see the roundtable back..
Were there any live shows last week? I want to make sure I didn’t miss any Pirates 3 discussion.
Aside from my comment about Knocked Up being attributed to someone not me wonderful show as always. See you on Wednesday.
Great show AS always guys. For the most part agree with you on Pirates 3 although I would rate it SLIGHTLY higher at about 4.5 or 5 of of 10. But generally I agree:)
Doug, since last night have you been bitten in the face by any dogs and subsequently bitten off any dog cocks?P
(Where was Bruxy? No excuse John?:P)
I getting a bit tired of Campea throwing Jackson comments out of proportion, I mean I followed the same news a I don’t understand were is the evil plotting of Peter Jackson. I really don’t see any thing wrong with the fact that he found this guy talk to him bring him to Weta studios an got him working on the concept of the movie and now stands by is side and is vision of the movie. Of course the Studio execs have the final word and if they don’t want to risk the money is there calling, but why should Peter Jackson do what they want? Is it John opinion that everybody must submit to studios execs biddings? Hey you don’t like this vision fine go hire another team to make the movie, I really don’t see any foul play on Peter Jackson position. So Campea light up a bit because I really don’t understand why your so upset about the issue.
Nice to see a new roundtable, just downloading it now for to tomorrow whilst posting mail (the ‘Queens’ mail no less!!) ;-)
I also was disappointed by John Campea’s views on Peter Jackson in this episode. I am NOT a Peter Jackson fan, I like some of his movies, but I do not consider him a genius.
I just feel that after Peter Jackson took Blomkamp under his wing, partnered with him on a short film, saw he had the goods and worked with him on this film in a way he was pleased with, then why should he have to throw that away because the studio doesn’t want to put up the money. If they want him to produce, then he’ll produce in the way only he can, and that’s what he’s trying to do. I have seen ZERO evidence that he’s after money, in fact his actions seem to suggest that’s not of interest to him, as he’s prepared to walk away form the project (and the money) if the studio doesn’t like the job he’s done. I see no evidence of foul play or arrogance here.
Looking at the facts. There is just no where near enough evidence to justify such a strong and bitter reaction in my opinion.
Hey John, final results:
Film Dollar (hey!) Per Screen Total
1 PotC: At World’s End $142,055,000 $32,566 $156,055,000
2 Shrek the Third $69,085,000(-43.2%) $16,559 $219,424,000
3 Spider-Man 3
$18,000,000 (-38.0%) $4,834 $307,642,000
MJ-
Peter Jackson is a giant dick. Finally, a web fanboy who calls it like it is and isn’t blinded by pure Jackson worship. Wake up people. As campea laid out, Jackson in the last year has showed a consistent pattern of lying and media manipulation and has developed an overly inflated ego.
He’s acting like a giant fucktard, and I’m glad to see someone finally with the guts to call him on it!
Oh, and I actually thought POTC: AWE was pretty good. Not as good as the first one, but I’m not sure why you guys hated it so much. I thought that final sea battle was wonderful.
i hated pirates 3…my gf and i went to the drive in with ‘meet the robinsons’ playing first.
we both thought meet the robinsons was a far superior movie, if that gives you any idea just how unenjoyable pirates 3 was to watch.
Regarding Pirates 3: I do agree with you about the resolution of Calypso. It was poorly executed. But some of the reasons you & Doug hated this film, are the same reasons I really liked it.
The time spent getting Jack back was great. The fact that a lot of characters had screen time, and that Jack wasn’t the ‘central’ character, was perfect. The ‘wedding’ scene was executed perfectly as well. I loved it. Although this film wasn’t perfect, I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Regarding the box-office for Pirates 3: You guys are so wrong! Sure, you mention the 3 hr running time & fewer showings per day as maybe one minor factor. it’s not. It’s the ONLY REASON!!
Most screens will only show it 3 times on the weekend, and only 1 time on weeknights. Compare that with Spiderman or Shrek which got shown 4-6 times on weekends, and at least twice on weeknights, Pirates has no chance.
As I’ve said before elsewhere, anyone who thought that Pirates would come even close to breaking the record with such fewer showings per day, IS A FOOL!!
I guarantee you though, that Pirates will make more in 10 days than Spiderman did, and then suprass it no problem.
Pirates 3 was total garbage except for Davey Jones and Barbossa. Davey made me care more for him than for anyone else in this godawful movie.
Again, not trying to hurt anyone with this, but man, it was sooo nice to hear a podcast without Bruxy. Just like the old days.
