Fantastic Four 2 Doom Pics

Movie Blog reader Ty was kind enough to send me these pics of Doctor Doom from the upcoming Fantastic Four 2 movie. Now, you all know how skeptical I am about this film.. but I’ll call it like I see it… I think these Doom pics are pretty sweet. But a Storm Cloud?

SORRY GUYS, I’VE HAD TO TAKE THE PICTURES DOWN. PICTURES THAT I ACTUALLY THOUGHT LOOKED GOOD… BECAUSE FOX STUDIOS IS RUN BY A BUNCH OF (john has edited this because the thinks he might have been taking his bad mood out on Fox a little bit). NO NO NO… THEY DON’T WANT PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT GOOD PICTURES AND SOMETHING THEY LIKE ABOUT THE NEW FF2 MOVIE… THEY’D RATHER US ALL JUST TALK ABOUT STORM CLOUDS.

IN CASE YOU CAN’T TELL, FOX SENT ME A LEGAL LETTER DEMANDING THE PICTURES COME OFF. I HAVE COMPLIED. FOX IS THE MOST OUT OF TOUCH STUDIO TODAY WITH ONLINE REALITY AND HOW THINGS WORK. BUT WHATEVER, IT’S THEIR MOVIE, IT’S THEIR IMAGES AND THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO TELL ME TO TAKE THEM DOWN…

BUT IT’S MY SITE, AND I HAVE THE RIGHT TO CALL THEM IDIOTS FOR DOING IT. OH WELL… BACK TO TALKING ABOUT HOW BAD THIS MOVIE WILL BE I GUESS. I’M AFFRID NOW IF I SAY ANYTHING ELSE POSITIVE THEY’LL SEND ME A NASTY LEGAL LETTER AND TELL ME TO TAKE IT DOWN.

Is that still Julian McMahon? I know that he’s got some metal-face going on in that first pic, but it doesn’t look like him at all.

I don’t like the armor. The 1st pic looks very much like the Mummy in, well, The Mummy, with the hood and all.

Honestly I kinda like that Storm Cloud idea, especially if they make it look like the spoof pic a few posts back. Very Marshmallow Man from The Ghostbusters. Right? RIGHT?

  • 6. Nord replies at 26th April 2007, 12:50 pm :

Weird, earlier pics of Doom out of costume and Julian looked normal, which was always a sore point with me, but damn, these pics look sweet, Doom looks very deserving of the name Doom now.

what if the storm cloud is only a disguise at first, and at some point he emerges from it, and eats all you storm cloud haters!!

besides, there is only ONE planet eater!!! UNICRON!!!!!

Sad to here they made you pull the pictures. Usually any talk about about a movie either positive or even negative will lead to ticket sales. I’ve gone to see movies just to see why people are complaining about something in it.

It not cool that Fox Studios goes out of their way to smash any possibly negative publicity.

I understand though that it is their content and they have the right to tell someone not to use it.

I didn’t even know there was a new movie coming out until I saw your blog. So even if the publicity was negative which I don’t believe it was you probably help them sell some tickets when it comes out. Well at least one mine.

  • 31. Jack Cope replies at 26th April 2007, 4:47 pm :

The important point John is that you handled the whole situation with maturity and humility. Definitely, you should get back to saying the movie will surely suck because Galactus is a cloud. Which you’ve seen.

“some people were ready to write off the whole movie just because of that (which is pretty lame in my opinion… even if you hate the one thing).”

  • 32. John Campea replies at 26th April 2007, 4:52 pm :

    Hey Jack,

Interesting point… except I’ve been saying that I have very low expectations of FF2 LONG LONG LONG before Storm Cloud news came out.

I’m sorry… did I not act with enough “maturity and humility” for you? Well… that’s how i feel when a giant corporation sicks a legal department after me.

  • 33. alfie replies at 26th April 2007, 4:55 pm :

um john paramount actually closed your site down….sure they apologised but they still did not allow you to put those transformers pictures back up afterwards … you still had to pull them….

    whats the difference?

  • 34. darren j seeley replies at 26th April 2007, 5:14 pm :

This is odd. Putting it into perespective:

When the whole thing with Paramount happened, the pics of Bumblebee (Transformers) were leaked almost a full calandar year before the film opens. Thehere was also miscommunication, and it was worked out. But the point is: “almost a full year”. It’s understandable that a studio would want to surpress pix, although I always thought that they should have let fangeeks have the bumblebee on a truck pix as a token of goodwill.

Now here’s Fox. When does FF2 open again?
While Doom has some improvements, is it “really” a scandal? I don’t think so. Now, if a pic had Doom standing beside Galactus’ Ultimate Nullifier, okay then! Or Galactus’ helmet peeking out of a thundercloud? Alright.

But just Doc Doom and Doc Doom alone?
Got something to hide, Mr. Rothman?

  • 35. Kristina replies at 26th April 2007, 5:19 pm :

Why did they make you take the pics down? It’s not like they are a spoiler or something. everybody knows at the end of the movie that Doom’s alive, so what’s the big fucking deal? I could undestand if it was a major spoilerific pic, but tht shit wasn’t anything to get all fussy about. Man, Lucas must be overjoyed that he made Empire before the Internet was born, because we all would have known Vader was the baby daddy a year before the movie opened.

  • 39. Jay replies at 26th April 2007, 6:11 pm :

If anyone would take the time to read the Avi Arad interview over at IESB.NET, you would know that Galactus isnt just going to be a storm cloud.

    Here’s a snippet -

“IESB: We talked about it earlier today, the announcement of Laurence Fishburne being the voice of the Silver Surfer, Fox has said that they don’t know if Galactus will even have a voice, can we address the rumor that Galactus is a giant cloud or something like that, is there any truth to those rumors?

Arad: You know, that’s why they call them rumors (laughter), you will see more than a cloud, you will have enough Galactus to rejoice (laughter).”

Now, can we please move on.
Galactus isnt just going to be a storm cloud, per Avi Arad.

  • 40. alfie replies at 26th April 2007, 6:26 pm :

but john you always state that the studios can do what they want to their films as they own them…so why is this so bad??
I mean if it is o.k. for studios to take entire films away from film makers and recut them surely it is o.k. for them to remove images they own from a web site which has nothing to do with them…

for all we know they have an exclusive deal set up with some t.v. show or something to be the first to reveal the new look doom…they may have a commercial partner who gets to display doom first,…

maybe they have a new trailer built all around revealing the doom and this takes the wind out of it…..
there are many potential reasons for them wanting this removed….

and as for this galactus stuff would a giant purple dude in a stupid helmet look any less ridiculous than an old school optimus prime??or a gun megatron?

galactus is fucking lame looking … no wonder they changed it…

  • 41. John Campea replies at 26th April 2007, 6:31 pm :

    Well Alfie,

#1 - I said they had the right to do it.
#2 - I’ve ALWAYS said they needed to change the look of Galactus… especially the helmut.

  • 42. Prophecy replies at 26th April 2007, 6:51 pm :

I missed seeing the pics, but was it a photo of Campea with his arm around Doom and a shit eating grin on his face?

Seriously though, Fox should control its property better and if they can’t then spin it into something positive. On the other hand the editor of ANY site has to determine if uploading a story or picture is the right and responsible thing to do. If you felt that posting the picture was okay 3 hours ago then why pull it down now? If you did nothing wrong then Fox’s lawyers shouldn’t be all that scary and the pics should still be up.

    Just my 6 sense.

  • 43. John Campea replies at 26th April 2007, 6:59 pm :

    Hey Proph,

They were good pictures. Solid pictures… gave me an excuse to say something positive about this film… and they really gave nothing away.

I took them down because a big mean scary leagal department sent me harsh letter. I don’t want a repeat of the Paramount situation.

Now Fox is playing “Good cop Bad cop” with me. They send the harsh legal dept. after me first… and THEN have a publicist contact me acting all nice. This is just so frustrating.

Let me say again… it’s Fox’s Movie. They have ever right to tell me to take the pictures down. But not being wrong, doesn’t mean it’s not stupid.

  • 44. Prophecy replies at 26th April 2007, 7:13 pm :

    John,

They put all media sources in a tough spot by not having full control over leaks. Fox should spend more energy with its legal department suing the snot out of whomever circulated the picture(s).

Off topic - I’m half way to fully launching my own movie website and hope I don’t have to have harsh letters from legal departments coming my way. Fox should learn they can catch more flies with honey than vinegar…..of course you can catch the most with a dead squirrel.

The folks at Fox showcased their apparent lack of knowledge about the influence of blogs to generate excitement about a movie. On the other hand, perhaps Fox was just upset because they wanted to ride the free press from the “Storm Cloud Controversy,” maybe Fox just wanted to delay the release of those pics so that they could capitalize on their buzz at a later date…

but john i still don’t see what the difference is between this and what paramount did? in fact paramounts behaviour wasmuch worse and you let them off the hook
why do paramount get a pass?

  • 50. John Campea replies at 26th April 2007, 10:24 pm :

    Hey Alfie,

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT???? Gave Paramount a Pass?!?!?! Are you crazy dude? Did you not read the letter I wrote them? Do you know how much of a headache they had because of me and what went on???

On top of all of that, Paramount profussly apologized and went out of their way to show me that it was a mistake.

What? Just because I called the people at Fox “idiots” that means I’m being harder on them than I was on paramount??? Hardly. What scale are you measuring it by? That’s just crazy talk

How on earth can you even compare my reaction to Paramount to this little insignificant thing with Fox? You’ll have to expalin this to me.

  • 51. alfie replies at 27th April 2007, 12:06 am :

yes john you railed at them and you were as angry as you should have been but that is not what I am talking about……

by pass i mean you stopped calling paramount fucking morons pretty quickly but the principle is the same here…..

at the end of the day when your site went back up and you got your apology and trip to the set etc etc you were still not allowed to post the pictures that caused the whole thing….. making paramount just as idiotic and moronic as fox are now surely….

  • 54. John Campea replies at 27th April 2007, 2:27 am :

    Alfie,

    You’re missing the whole point.

With Paramount, I stopped being angry after they apologized. It was a mistake. Mistakes happen. As far as your not so subtle dig at “got your trip to the set”, that’s bush and you know it… that came months after every thing was already resolved.

If you’ll remember, before paramount had my site taken down, in the previous weeks they politely emailed me (one of the publicists, not a lawyer from the legal department) asking me to take down the bumblebee pic. And I did… no problems… all cool.

At least paramount, Lakeshore and a couple of other studios understand that when you have people out here… like me… who are giving you free publicity.. talking about your movie and eating up all the stuff you send out, then if something goes wrong (like a picture going up that you don’t want public yet), then you treat them as allies. You pick up the phone… drop them a line… as allies. You don’t treat them like criminals of war and sick your legal department after them.

The paramount and Fox issues are 100% different things.

  • 55. alfie replies at 27th April 2007, 5:04 am :

well it wasn’t really meant to be taken as a dig. I was on your side all the way back when all that shit happened john and I personally think you accepted their apology way too easily….

  • 56. Nord replies at 27th April 2007, 9:01 am :

Now that I think about it, Doom was looking very different from FF1 Doom, I wonder if it was a spoiler issue, cause something serious happens to that dude.

But John is %100 correct, these monkeies need to realize that the Legal department is that last resort, not the first, cause there are now quite a few people with a bad taste in their mouths over this. My anticipation went down a notch, whereas everything John has posted was taking it up a notch, slowly but surely.

But fuck all that now and screw this movie. I hope a urine storm cload forms over the the person that came up with the Glactus storm cload idea and rains piss all over them.

Probly wont even bother with FF2 on DVD. Fox really has lost in with they’re comic book films, X3, although I thought was good but with a pointless plot, was sadly just the begining.
