Whitaker To Appear In Cop Movie With Keanu!

By Doug - March 28, 2007 - 23:04 America/Montreal

After winning an Oscar it appears Whittaker is treating himself to a good cop / bad cop movie with Keanu Reeves. Whittaker will be the good cop and Keanu will be a bad drunkard cop.

We get the story from Yahoo!

Based on an original idea by crime writer James Ellroy, the Fox Searchlight project centers on a veteran LAPD cop (Reeves) who turns to alcohol after the death of his wife. The cop is forced to go up against his longtime mentor (Whitaker) when he is implicated in the execution of a fellow officer.

I think this may be poised to be a more over the top cop movie than point break or speed! Why the hell is Keanu cast so much as a cop? When I look at Keanu Reeves, I can see how people would cast him to be in Wyld Stallions, but how he gets tapped for so many gigs as a cop, is beyond my uinderstanding.

I think after winning an Oscar, a fair challenge would be to make an awesome cop movie with Keanu Reeves as your drunk nemesis. I cannot wait to see Keanu as a drunk cop widower; I feel this movie may warrant a drinking game. Every time Keanu takes a drink or someone talks about his dead wife you have to take a shot.

(Once we find out the name of the movie we should have a contest to name the drinking game.)

    How about this:

    “Lazy-eye-Ghost-Dog vs the Pop-Quiz-Asshole”

LOL, yes! Damnit, now your making me wanna go watch Ghost Dog. Love that movie. Probly rent it this week with Death Race 2000. And Doug, your funny as hell men.

I love the idea for this movie. Sounds like it’ll be really cool and a fun watch. 2 great stars, both with uniq movie backgrounds. Can’t wait.

“Wyld Stallions!!” *busts into air guitar jam*

    Or this:

Bad Boys 3: This Time There’s A White Guy :P^_^

I know exactly what you mean, why does Reeves always get cast as a cop. It’s ridiculous to assume someone with an IQ so low could make it as a cop (even if it’s a drunken one)

  4. Tyler says:

“The cop is forced to go up against his longtime mentor (Whitaker) when he is implicated in the execution of a fellow officer.”

Is it just me, or does this sentence actually imply that Whitaker is the bad cop and Keanu the good one… it would make more sense if Keanu has to beat his alcoholism to win, plus I can totally see Whitaker as an evil bastard cop.

  5. Jason says:

Well, anyone that watched Whitaker as IAD Detective John Kavanaugh on The Shield this past season knows his level of awesomeness knows no bounds. He’s supposed to be the good guy in theory, going after the crooked cop, but he comes off as such a bastard, you just want Vick Mackey (Michael Chiklis’ character) to put a bullet between his eyes. At least I do.

    “Want some gum?”

  6. Ross says:

I think Whitaker AMY be taking a step back, Oscar wise. I can only think of one other actor who has portrayed a cop to win an Oscar (Denzel Washington in Training Day). After winning his Oscar for The Last King of Scotland I can’t see him surpassing that performance.

  7. Viddy says:

At least he’s not making a superhero /crap actioner movie after winning his Oscar thingy. :D

    Oh wait.

  8. Jay says:

The name of the movie is The Night Watchman

  9. doug nagy says:

Shit tyler you may be correct - I may have misread that.

Whitaker was also a cop in bloodsport.

  10. wolf says:

I dig the Reeves. His best role to date is Ted. I want the character Ted to become a bad cop whos wife is dead. Whitaker would play Bill.

  11. Chris says:

Bloodsport rules!! I don’t remember him in that, will have to rewatch soon!

  12. nwoslane says:

Reeves was good as an asshole in the Gift

  13. Ash1138 says:

Reeves actually was good in The Gift. It just goes to show the directoral mastery of Sam Raimi knows no bounds.

On a side note, I fail to see how being cast once as a cop and another time as an FBI agent equals “always being cast as a cop.”

And is it just me or does this movie sound a lot like Training Day so far?
