Will Smith with Sisters of Mercy

Will Smith is looking into the softer sides of movies these days and now with his Overlook banner and Sony purchasing the new script Sisters of Mercy he is sure to continue that trend. The folks over at cinematical.com give us this on the news:
Today Variety reports Smith, his Overlook banner and Sony have snatched up Sisters of Mercy, a spec script (yes, a spec script!) written by Steve Bloom (Overnight Delivery). While the article doesn’t state whether or not Smith will star, we’re to assume he will.
Here’s the plot outline: Mercy follows a recently widowed father who looks to the members of his deceased wife’s book club to help him rearrange his life, only to watch them slowly take it over with a slew of parenting and dating advice.
Looks like a nice family movie, a bit dull for my tastes but then again it would depend on who is cast as the book club ladies. I am getting more impressed with Smith these days, I never really thought much of him, the only really great work I saw him in for years was The Legend of Bagger Vance but after seeing his amazing performance in The Pursuit of Happiness I am starting to become a real fan.
This movie doesn’t look like too much on paper, if he was an alcoholic widower maybe, or if his son had special needs but as it stands it looks like a First Wives Club with a pet project of helping widowers. Might be entertaining but sounds like a renter to me. This just isn’t enough of a challenge for Smith anymore.
I can’t say I agree with his performance in “Pursuit of Happyness”. It was OK but nothing special. I still think his best performance to date was in “Ali”.
I find the guy ANNOYING AS HELL SOMETIMES, but that scene at the end of POH had me in tears, it really did. He was very good in that flick. Not DiCaprio good, but still good. How ’bout that Leo, BTW. Dude’s come a long way since turning into a blueberry popsicle in Tianic.
This guy can do no wrong. Makes a shit movie like I, Robot into a blockbuster. Turned and average drama (Pursuit of Happyness) into a $100m BLOCKBUSTER.
Will Smith should be the highest paid man in showbiz. NOT fuckin Chris Tucker!
I really think that ‘Ali’ deserves a mention here. Smith’s performance in that was incredible. The other movie that bears mentioning is ‘Six Degrees of Seperation’ - if you haven’t seen Smith in that, you need to.
