john.jpgJohn Cusack will be starring in the new movie adapted from the Stephen King short story 1480, and now you can catch more than a glimpse of it in the new trailer. The good folks over at filmjunk.com made us aware of the trailer.

Here’s the premise:A man who specializes in debunking paranormal occurrences checks into the fabled room 1408 in the Dolphin Hotel. Soon after settling in, he confronts genuine terror. It also stars Samuel L. Jackson and Mary McCormack and it is directed by Mikael Hafstrom.
Ok so it’s pretty much your standard fright style Stephen King movie but…the trailer does look pretty cool. With most of King’s books as well as his movies it isn’t usually the stories that are so interesting as the characters in them, this is no exception. I think that Cusack is the right choice and just from the trailer I can see some effort being put forth on his part to do something interesting with his character. The trailer itself is a bit too long, gives a little too much information, there is nothing worse than when you feel like you’ve already seen the film at the end of a trailer.

The movie looks alright, nothing too get excited about, but it will probably be one of those rainy day, matinee, lets go out and scream kind of movies.

Why don’t you write a post about the movie trailer to Steven Frear’s new sci-fi movie Sunshine? It looks great.

  2. Alfredo says:

Looks good to me I’ll check it out.

I reckon this movie looks awesome. Hopefully it will be a nice return to form for Cusack. God knows he needs it.

He doesn’t deserve to be wasted on movies like ‘Must Love Dogs’!

This looks really good. 1408 is one of my favourite King short stories. The Mist is my all favourite short though it is more of a novella. I was worried about how the padding required for this movie would be turn and the trailer has allayed those fears. Looks like the backstory will tie nicely into Cusack’s character and what he find in 1408. I am officially jazzed now to see this.

The short story is great…and the two of the best king adaptations are probably shawshank and stand by me which were both shorts so hopefully this will be another good one….

Wow, looks great. Think I’m gonna see it.

I dunno, it doesnt look exactly subtle, does it. Water pouring out of a painting of the ocean? :rolls eyes: I prefer something like ‘The Innocents’ for a ghost story.

To The Snow Leopard, you probably meant Danny Boyle’s Sunshine not Steven Frears?

    Thanks FM. D’oh!

Is it 1408 or 1480? Jeez.

this actually looks good and scary, just a good ol’fashion scary movie. and i’m not a big cusack fan. but i have to say, he’s getting better looking as he matures.

The movie looks interesting but far from the original King story it’s based on. Understandable, since the story was a very short piece (not even novella length) from his Everything’s Eventual anthology. The story is much more subtle. A lot of the ways in which the room in the story is terrifying are things it’s hard to put your finger on, which doesn’t translate well to the big screen. That said, this still looks like a fun scary flick. I’m a fan of Cusack as well, so I’ll probably go see it.

I’m very excited about this movie! I originally bought the book that had this short story because I heard and later read that Stephen King was inspired to write “1408″ after reading and seeing several news features about Parapsychologist Christopher Chacon, who along with a bunch of researchers, were scientifically investigating a haunting in a room at the famous Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, California. Of course I’m certain King took many creative liberties with “1408″ to make it complete and terrifying story, but I love tha fact that he was inspired by an actual person and event. WAY TO GO KING!
