James Brown dies at 73

Not the most Merry of Christmases for those close to legendary Godfather of Soul, James Brown.

CNN Reports

James Brown, the dynamic, pompadoured “Godfather of Soul,” whose rasping vocals and revolutionary rhythms made him a founder of rap, funk and disco as well, died early Monday, his agent said. He was 73.

Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and died around 1:45 a.m. Monday, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music. Longtime friend Charles Bobbit was by his side, he said.

I know Brown isnt exactly movie news, but with the impact he made on stage showmanship being mimicked in so many movies, I didnt think anyone would mind.

So, I take it he’s no longer the “hardest working man in show business”?

I loved his music, very few music artists have had his influence on modern music, he really was a legend in his own lifetime. R.I.P James Brown.

    Sad.

And as mentioned, James Brown has appeared in a number of films such as Rocky IV (singing the hit song Living In America), the Blues Brothers films,

and how many times has his tunes been used/referenced in movies and TV overall?
And the composer of 1973’s Black Caesar?

The Hardest Workin Man in Showbiz will be missed.

RIP, and have a party with The Man upstairs.

Gahhh.. 10 comments in I didn’t think I’d be the first one to say it.

Ok - here goes. I want to feel bad about this, but come on, how many times was this guy in jail for smacking up women? If this was a non-celebrity, we’d all be saying “it’s about @#$%ing time.”

That being said, his music still rocked and that’ll always be around. I guess my personal confusion results in a rather emphatic “meh” about the whole thing.

    Agreed jimmy

James Brown wasn’t a good person……..in fact he was probably a pretty bad one…who (unlike Ray Charles) didn’t seem to really reform his life extremely when he reached old man status. Still doesn’t mean he wasn’t an awesome musician and singer and innovator. He basically gave roots to hip-hop and rap. So for that he is appreciated.

James Brown may have not been a good man, but he did give the world some great music.

I saw him perform live five years ago in Las Vegas in a very small venue. That is an experience I’ll never forget - he was amazing. Even though he had been arrested the night before…haha. The man lived life even if it wasn’t always good.

    R.I.P James Brown

Turns out there might just be some movie news in this after all: a bio-pic is in the works, and Spike Lee’s name is attatched to it.
