Harry Potter Is A Star Wars Rip Off

Posted by John Campeaon 25. 10. 2006in News Chat

Finally… I always suspected it, but now hard solid proof has emerged that once and for all shows that J.K. Rowling (aka the great plagarist) stole her entire concept for Harry Potter from George Lucas’ “Star Wars”. For shame lady… for shame. The following document was taken from Rowlings purse at a London airport.

Many Bothans died to bring us this information. See for yourself

This is from bash.org irc-quotes site. Someone have replaced the word “wand” with “wang” in the first Harry Potter Book. Indeed, J.K Rowling is a dirty ol woman…

    Let’s see the results…

“Why aren’t you supposed to do magic?” asked Harry.
“Oh, well — I was at Hogwarts meself but I — er — got expelled, ter tell yeh the truth. In me third year. They snapped me wang in half an’ everything

A magic wang… this was what Harry had been really looking forward to.

“Yes, yes. I thought I’d be seeing you soon. Harry Potter.” It wasn’t a question. “You have your mother’s eyes. It seems only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wang. Ten and a quarter inches long, swishy, made of willow. Nice wang for charm work.”
“Your father, on the other hand, favored a mahogany wang. Eleven inches. ”

Harry took the wang. He felt a sudden warmth in his fingers. He raised the wang above his head, brought it swishing down through the dusty air and a stream of red and gold sparks shot from the end like a firework, throwing dancing spots of light on to the walls

“Oh, move over,” Hermione snarled. She grabbed Harry’s wang, tapped the lock, and whispered, ‘Alohomora!”

The troll couldn’t feel Harry hanging there, but even a troll will notice if you stick a long bit of wood up its nose, and Harry’s wang had still been in his hand when he’d jumped - it had gone straight up one of the troll’s nostrils.

He bent down and pulled his wang out of the troll’s nose. It was covered in what looked like lumpy gray glue.

He ran onto the field as you fell, waved his wang, and you sort of slowed down before you hit the ground. Then he whirled his wang at the dementors. Shot silver stuff at them.

    Ok
    I have found, definitive proof
that J.K Rowling is a dirty DIRTY woman, making a fool of us all
“Yes,” Harry said, gripping his wang very tightly, and moving into the middle of the deserted classroom. He tried to keep his mind on flying, but something else kept intruding…. Any second now, he might hear his mother again… but he shouldn’t think that, or he would hear her again, and he didn’t want to… or did he?
    O_______O
Something silver-white, something enormous, erupted from the end of his wang

Then, with a sigh, he raised his wang and prodded the silvery substance with its tip.

‘Get - off - me!’ Harry gasped. For a few seconds they struggled, Harry pulling at his uncles sausage-like fingers with his left hand, his right maintaining a firm grip on his raised wang.

Well we all knew Star Wars was a basic concept…just the special effects were ahead of its time…

Now that special effects have become the norm…the story shines through (and sucks). Well for 1,2 and 3 anyway.

  10. Chuck says:

Yeah, because the idea for Star Wars had never been done before. Like, I don’t know, every epic ever.

I know it’s a joke, but people give George Lucas too much credit.

  11. DarkKinger says:

Gee, I wonder who’ll rip-off Lord of the Rings (note the sarcasm).

  12. Panda says:

Eragon is an even bigger rip off of star wars, but it’s mixed with rip offed things of Lord of the Rings also.

  13. Gavin Bollard says:

    That’s funny.

It’s been acknowledged by most people - including George, that Star Wars is generally a “rip-off” of other material.

George’s contributions are in the definition of the force and his technical achievements.

This is one reason why I find it so strange that people are so “down on him”, whining about the stories and actors in EP1-3 (he was NEVER a great writer, and he never used great actors - Mark Hamill anyone?

But there’s no doubting his contributions to modern cinema, sound, visuals, digital technology and special effects. Now he’s going to do the same for TV.

Admittedly Jar Jar is - well, jarring… but without him, there’d be no Gollum.

  14. Kylopod says:

    Clever!

By the way, I like the T.S. Eliot quote, “Immature poets imitate, mature poets steal.” It’s a very apropos philosophy when applied to movies.

  15. Marina says:

If nothing else, this is really funny!

  16. Jedi Ninja says:

George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic is also responsible for that wonderful program we all know in love called….

    Adobe Photoshop

ILM created it and Adobe bought it.

    How about THEM apples?

  17. Richard says:

I don’t like the look of them apples

  18. Luis G says:

    Isn’t Pirates the same formula??

  19. maegraukar says:

    spoilers ahead (sorry)

In Harry Potter V… the description of the sirious’s death is a rip-off of obiwan death… crying included (luke and harry)

  20. I'm Bobby says:

So how are we to know this is genuine? Funny yes. and the last line literally made me laugh out loud.

  21. Jagmir says:

…and Lucas stole the story plot from ‘The Wizard of Oz”.

  22. bigsampson says:

    7 samurai’s was the best

  23. Gerry Wilson says:

Seeing that you like these type of books I thought you might like to have a look at my new, first, and of yet unpublished, novel. Wot, Nott, Kakuri and the HU BA HOY. It’s a magical, fantasy adventure, the first in a trilogy, featuring the two Outlanders. And it’s definitely different from anything you might have read before (from JK Rowling or otherwise) - I hope!
The first three chapters are available, free, to see on my web site http://www.gerrardtwilson.com. Also my blog http://www.gerrardtwilson.bloggoing.com (The blog is bursting at the seams with loads more ideas that I have in the making).
If you like it, or indeed have any feedback I would love to hear it. Thanks.

All the best from Gerry Wilson (in Ireland).

If you want to say Harry Potter is a rip-off of Star Wars, then why don’t we go all the way back to Romeo and Juliet, isn’t Star Wars just a spruced up Romeo and Juliet? Though George added a twist, he related them, which back when Romeo and Juliet was righten, wouldn’t have mattered. On another note, history repeats itself, if it is deemed as a rip-off, a lot of times it’s unintentional. Such as Napoleon and Hitler, they both seeked the world, and both attempted to take it, as well as their attempt to take Russia, but alas they were defeated. So does that mean Hitler was a rip-off from Napoleon? Not at all, he just made the same mistakes, lol.

  26. arlette says:

this is such a fake this was not taken from j.k.rowling it was made from something that someone found on the internet and yes these stories may be linked but aren’t all stories going to be similar i mean harry potter, lord of the rings, star wars you can’t even find out which one came first because like they said before it can go back to romeo and juliet all stories r going to have the same plot because eventaully writers run out of ideas!!

look at how many different versions of cinderella there is modern or not and they keep coming….all the writers do now is change names and settings and time frame but we enjoy them all don’t we so who cares about being a rip-off i don’t i will watch the movie or read the book anyway who knows if it is even a rip-off neway who wrote the first story to copy?????

answer that and then complain about being a rip-off

  27. neil says:

    i like it.. nice joke

  28. wobbo says:

well i recon its all good stuff as at the end of the we are all a buch of wangers

  29. nick says:

Ok…………..Everyone has a point…as far as the rip-offs go!!! Every story derives from the same basic principals. The epic poem The Odyssey is a the foundation for all of these works. Odysseus is (Luke, Harry, or whomever else) He fights at Troy (middle earth, a distant galaxy, the death star, Hogrwarts, Alagaesia, many more…) Here he must overcome the stronghold which is the city of Troy (The death star, Lord Voldemort, King Galbatorix, Sauron,…..) With the help of friends like Achilles, Ajax, and the geek army ( Hobbits, Ron, Hermoine, Han Solo,….) He fights evil….. there is also an identified power or “Force” Magic, an Evil Ring, or Gods in the case of Odysseus.

It is the struggles between good and evil the story of the hero who can take the easy way out and give in to evil, or chooses to fight it and in the end be rewarded for it. All of our heroes must partake in some sort of coming of age journey. They must not only defeat the anti-hero within the story, but also defeat the inner demons within themselves.

What makes these stories so popular is not their originality , but their ability to connect to a multitude of individuals. I for one enjoy these stories. I do not see them as rip-offs, rather unique dipictions of the human experience.

  30. HPSW<3 says:

Come ON…this is obviously forged! its not even JK Rowling’s real handwriting! and harry’s father never joined the darks ide - he died!!! this is definitely a FAKE just for star wars fans!

  31. waf says:

And George Lucas “ripped off” The Iliad, The Odyssey, Beowulf, The Aeneid, The Ramayana, Gilgamesh, The Song of Roland, King Arthur, The Lord of the Rings…you name it.
The “hero” story has been rewritten thousands of times. All modern writers have been influenced by great hero writing of the past - not just J. K. Rowling - but also George Lucas. Other stories like Indiana Jones and The Matrix also take from earlier hero legends.
Let’s give credit where credit is due. Homer and the great poets of ancient times originated the hero epic. Credit should be given to George Lucas and J. K. Rowling for their creative takes on the hero legend.

  32. TIm says:

Hmmm, some people are taking this OBVIOUS joke a little too seriously. Those of you who are getting all high and mighty about it being an “obvious forgery” are missing the point. THIS IS A MEANT TO BE A JOKE! I love HP and certainly don’t think its a ripoff but i was chilled enough to read this, have a laugh, and not go “ZOMG obvious forgery how could you blah blah blah, rant rant rant”. Calm down guys it ok! :)
