Conan The Barbarian Commentary Is Here!
Well folks, due to the overwhelming popularity (if numnber of downloads says anything about popularity) of the Raiders fo the Lost Ark commentary that we did last month, we are now pleased to present to you The Audio Edition gang’s commentary track to the grandaddy of all Barbarian movies, CONAN THE BARBARIAN!!!

I never understood the attraction of this Conan The Barbarian. I had a friend when I was a kid who was into those paintings of over-muscled guys in loin cloths by that guy who only ever paints over-muscled guys in loin cloths (to be fair, sometimes these paintings have bulbously breasted women in them, too) and he loved Conan. I always found him a little creepy. The friend, I mean, not Conan.
Also, where the hell is the Audio Edition?

I know there are different releases of the movie on DVD. Do the different releases have different cuts (such as added or removed footage)? If so, which version of the DVD did you use for the commentary?

I’m not aware of any “special” editions. As far as I can tell, this is just the basic movie we got on DVD. Didn’t see any other options. Hope that helps.

The DVD version I have is the Collector’s Edition, clocking in at 2hrs 9min. There may be a synch issue if yours is different. :(

My version is 129 minutes… I’ve personally yet to see one that wasn’t. So at 2 hours and 9 minutes it should sync just fine.

Aetherus - You’re not so good at math are you:
1 hour = 60 minutes.
2 hours = 120 minutes
9 minutes = 9 minutes
2 hours and 9 minutes = 129 minutes.
Who knows, maybe you’re using Canadian time systems.

To donate $10 in your honour. Have your guys thought about doing commentary for a comic book movie eventually? It does seem to be the main genre you guys talk about on the audio edition.

I bought the collector’s edition package when I saw it over the weekend only because I knew this was coming. Can’t wait to listen to it!

Huh?!? I never said that 129 minute was not equal to 2 hours 9 minutes. What I was pointing out was that there are different releases of “Conan the Barbarian” on DVD.
What I didn’t know was if the different DVD versions were the same length or not. Studios do sometimes reinsert or remove footage on one version of a DVD release, thus the differing times on different versions.
Just to prove my point, take a look at http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews/conanthebarbarian.html. The two different versions are practically four minutes apart, which would make the commentary a bit out of synch if you’re watching a different DVD than ones John and recorded recorded their commentary.
Does this make sense now?

Have all of you seen The Princess Bride and Roadhouse? It was a little sad that Bruxy was so silent because he hadn’t seen Conan before.
At least make sure all of you have seen the movie before. It’s much greater that way.

Yes… we’ve all seen those other 2. HOWEVER, I really liked that Bruxy hadn’t seen the movie… I liked the idea that out of the 4 of us 1 could give thier very first impressions.

I don’t know if you ever answer it later, I’m listening to it right now, but you asked where it was filmed and according to the director commentary it was filmed entirely in Spain.

I liked the commentary a lot. Although I watched the longer version the synch issues did not bother me that much. Conan really is a great movie. Can’t wait for the next commentaries…

To answer a few questions posed during the commentary, in the final Robert E. Howard story (chronologically) King Conan summons Zenobia, a slave who helped him in Nemedia, to be his bride. We never see if he marries her, but it’s assumed he did.
And the little guy who leads Thulsa Doom’s soldiers to the Cimmerian village is a scout from the Pictland wilderness, which is why he sticks out like a sore thumb.

Wow… this commentary is worse even than the commentary by Arnold and John Milius on “The Fanchise Collection” Dvd….

Young Conan wasn’t wearing lipstick…. And his name is Jorge Sanz… he’s got 70 some roles under his belt….
“These guys… that guy… those guys…” If you’re going to do a commentary, first hit the IMDB and learn peoples names…. For instance, Thulsa Dooms #2s are Rexor and Thorgrim… Ben Davidson and Sven-Ole Thorsen respectively….

Hey… an intelligent comment about the length of shots in this compared to more modern films….
The Wheel Of Pain is a tool for grinding wheat into flour….
