Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy Picture

I’ve had a bunch of email today from people sending me this link to a alleged Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy picture. The picture does look really good… however, I can’t confirm or deny this is an actual and 100% legit set picture.

I LOVE the idea of bringing Gwen Stacy into the movie. It really throws a wrench into how smooth everything seems to be going now for Peter and Mary Jane. Man I still hope they kill off Mary Jane in this flick. Yes I know it’s Gwen who dies in the comic… but who cares? Bub by Mary Jane!

If you know if this pic is 100% legit make sure to tell us in the comments section below.

It’s legit. Joblo has a bunck of pictures and you can see Tobey Whatshisname in some of them: http://www.joblo.com/index.php?id=11541

Man, I really hope they kill Kirstin Dunst in this one. Bryce looks great!

I really think that, well, since Spider-Man’s strength will be amplified times ten in this film due to the symboite I really think in his uncontrolled rage and anger he will kill Mary Jane and possibly a villain. Yes the Stacy’s are more likley to be killed off but hey, dramatic effect in a story is always great.

And because Spider-Man will be conflicting with “I have a lot of power, and what does that do to me.” This movie will be about power and rage meaning The Lizard who is filled with more rage will be in this one for sure now. Eddie Brock will be in this one, but that doesn’t mean we will see Venom.

Only in a perfect world, Lizardfreak, would Spidey’s classic nemesis Lizard appear in this movie out of the clear blue sky (although Dylan Baker does return as Curt Connors). I feel the possibilty of Venom, Green Goblin II (or Hobgoblin, depeending which fan you ask) and The Sandman alone is plenty of villian wattage.

Me? I do like Kirsten Dunst. I hope Sam & co. don’t knock her off. But if they did, and Gwen is the new love intrest…if there is a 4th film, that would be kind of funky, for what I always liked about the Spider-Man3 premise thus far is that it truly is in spirit and character of the comic book, but to a whole generation who doesn’t know squat about the Stacys? Gold!

    Ok folks here goes…

I do believe this is legit… it’s up on wireimage along with many others.

ok so villians… the big question is green goblin 2 or hobgoblin..

well i truly believe its going to be hobgoblin. what, you say?

well for anyone who is into spidey because of these movies is going to be really bummed out to see another GG same suit same villan come on its been done already… so exceutives will push for harry as hobs.. because its fresh its new its not a cop out for costume design and previous movie goers will feel they wont be cheated.

being a long time fan of spidey, i think its not a bad change if thats what happens.

John, when you first said they should kill off MJ I 100% disagreed with you, maybe because that was the fanboy in me and I couldn’t imagine them killing off MJ . But as I thought about it I pefered if she died in the movie. And for mulitple reasons.

    1) Her character has been built up for 2 movies. You know who she is and how much Peter loves her. Killing her in the movie would be so emotional compared to the death of Stacy who is only been introduce in this movie and we won’t be attached to this character as we won’t be shocked if she died because we know she will die and if MJ died we will be suprised.

    2) Like I said above we know everything about MJ we don’t need to see or know anything more about her.

    3) Spider-Man looks better with Gwen beside her, look how FRIGGIN hot she is, way to go Spidety….SCORE!!!! ;)

Excuse me but why is nobody pointing out how (hollywood) fat she is? Snaggletooth may have her ugly moments but she does have a good body. Gwen Stacy though looks like she’s got a season pass at Taco Bell.

Seriously, go to the joblo pics and tell me she hasn’t gained 20lbs since her last film.

Kudos to “I Am Johns Arrogant Ass” (not just the name, but the post). She does like rather meaty in the pics I saw.

Can someone please explain why so many hate Kirsten Dunst as MJ? I found the chemistry between her and Tobey Maguire to be exceptional. If they kill her, it ruins the series. Remember the opening narrative of Spider-Man? Like all stories wirth telling, it’s about a girl, THAT girl, Mary Jane Watson. The story is on-going, so I don’t think they can kill her off.

Hell, break them up if you have to, but NOTHING would be more satisfying to conclude this saga than having Parker and MJ reunite/get married/whatever.

How’s about this….. the pressure of Parker being Spider-Man is straining their relationship. MJ gets an offer to continue her modelling/acting career abroad. So off she goes. Break up city. Weep Weep. She’s out of the picture, but not dead. Then they can bring her back for the finale. I’m telling you it’s fuckin gold!

Oh, and one last word on Bryce….. beefcake!

Yeah, I remember that, and it’s total, 100% bullshit script writing.

Spider-man is not about a girl, Raimi & other folks, it’s about Spider-Man, thus the fucking name of the movie. So stop it. Now.

i love your show john. listen to every cast……find you guys highly amusing but where is your consistancy…on one hand you say kill mary jane….sure its gwen in the comics but who cares….then with x men you say its a movie its not the comic so get over any changes…but with iron man because the makers have decided maybe it isn’t the best idea to have the hero of a film, that lets face it, is made for children a raging drunk you cry foul.
look i would love to have a fucking alcoholic iron man. I would love to have tony stark action figure that comes complete with a little bottle of rum in a brown paper bag and a five o clock shadow. that would be awesome but you seem to have a problem with them changing that aspect of his character yet actually killing a main character from something else isn’t a big deal? having said that i hope they kill mary jane as i can;t stand her.

  • 12. John Campea replies at 31st May 2006, 5:46 pm :

    Hey there Carter.

If you listen to the Podcast, I wasn’t complaining that they took out the alchaholic aspect because it broke with the comic… I was complaining that taking it out made the character uninteresting and just another poor mans Batman.

I don’t care if they mess with the comic to make a good film. I just care if they take out the only aspect of the character that makes me even remotely interested in him. Without that aspect… he’s just not interesting to me in the least.

    Hope that clears that up.

    Cheers!

Tom, if the story is about a girl, the said girl can still die in a stroy. Death happens in stories, and is Mary Janes death worth telling…you bet your ass. And these Spider-Man movies are more about Peter Parker struggling with his Spider-Man persona, and how that persona effects his loved ones.

And giving more proof to Mary Janes eventual death, in Spidey 2 Peter reads poetry and one of the poems is about a Spider catching a bee and sucking the life out of it. Mary Jane is that bee, and Peter Parker taking on the role of a responsible hero sucks the life out of her. This bee also eventually dies, by the Spider.

One thing that keeps turning over again and again in my mind is how Raimi in his commentary states it’s always fun to see a villain return, this could simply mean Harry takes on the role of his father, or this could mean Doc Ock returns, possibly killing Captain Stacy.

Problem with this is, movie wise it wouldn’t be a good move to me. I would love to see Doc Ock return but thinking about how that would play out just kills the idea for me. I brought it up simply beacuse it interests the hell out of me, this speculation.

But it’s NOT about the girl, whatsofuckingever. Raimi needs to drill that into his head. Maybe I’ll actually go and see Spider-man 3 if he has Mary Jane violently owned in the very beginning. Maybe start off with some pristine setting, with flowers and cupcake gumdrops, and her running in a field, and then suddenly, a grenade just goes off in her face, and she’s mauled by a pack of polar bears, trampled by wildebeasts and then an airliner crashes into her corpse.

    I’d pay to see that.

At the beginning of both movies, they always focus on Dunst’s ugly mug with Maguire doing a voice over pontificating about how ‘amazing’ she is and all that shit. Enough is enough. Stop boring the audience and give me a wallcrawler who isn’t a whiny emo dickhead, and actually has a sense of humor about the troubles in his life.

Dude (talking to I Am Johns Arrogant Ass), you ARE an ass? Comments like this piss me off. Freakin’ hell. We see a woman on screen that’s not a size 4 and all of a sudden she’s fat. Fat!! I’m trying not to get worked up but hell, I can’t help myself. God forbid that ANYONE, especially Spiderman, should fall for a woman who’s of ‘average’ size. Is that so wrong? I guess it must be. I’ll go away now because I’m just getting more upset by the second. I’d hate to just keep ranting.

  • 16. Lizardfreak replies at 31st May 2006, 7:00 pm :

Tom, please back up why it’s NOT about the girl and i’ll listen. I just think you have no sense when it comes to what Spider-Man is about. HIS STRUGGLES COME FROM HIS LOVE FOR MARY JANE, EVEN MORE SO IN THESE FILMS. You quote me in your post but it seems like you didn’t even read it. Out of all his loved ones, Mary Jane is his number 1 priority and pain.

  • 17. Tom replies at 31st May 2006, 7:13 pm :

Mary Jane’s just one of the things he’s got to worry about, she’s not the main focus of his fucking life in general, man. The Spider-Man character would’nt still be around if that were true. And even with his problems, Peter still finds a sense of humor about everything, because, for some reason, the comic writers realize something the movie folks don’t; that a whiny bitch can never be a hero. He’s just a whiny bitch.
It’s NOT all about Mary Jane. No fictional character (or real person) should be focused entirely on somebody else, ESPECIALLY a dude who’s supposed to be a superhero, of all things. We’re supposed to really give a shit what happens to this guy, and hope everything works out for him. The movie Spider-Man feels so bad for himself already, that you can’t even feel sympathy when something shitty happens to him, because he’s already writing about in his fucking livejournal.

  • 18. Lizardfreak replies at 31st May 2006, 8:02 pm :

Thank you for giving your reason, although I don’t agree with you I can still see your side. Raimi knows what he’s doing with these films, he’s one of the biggest Spider-Man fans out there, and we are lucky to have him as director. We are also lucky to have a great writer like Avi Arad.

I still feel the story focuses on Spideys love for Mary Jane, and the dramtic effect she has on Spider-Man makes the Spider-Man we see in the films. I’m still preaching how Peter Parkers decisons effect his loved ones, namly Mary Jane. Love stories are important in most films, acts like the superglue to hold our interest.

And if you don’t like it Tom, that is tough, because Raimi loves beating up characters, and that makes us care more about them whether they are whiny bitches or hardcore bad-asses, and it plays out BEAUTIFULLY on screen. He beats up Parker emotionally and physically. Moreover when Peter narrates in the opening of the films, he is giving HIS insight on how HE feels about MJ. Peter feels his story is worth telling because

    1: It’s interesting as hell,
    2: He loves MJ
3: She is a huge part of who he is and what he strives for.(Dunst fucked that up with her shitty take on who the MJ character is)And she is therfore a general part of his life.

And you cannot look at this as the director and writer saying this is about a story of a girl, and its worth telling. It’s Peter Parker saying this because as we all know, MJ is his true love.

If MJ does die(fingers crossed), any movie beyond this one will give us a stronger and more responsible Spider-Man, these films he has been growing into his alter ego and trying to just deal. He got past being a whiny bitch and learned to suck it up with the end of the last film. And then will we see wise cracks and smartassness from the Spidey we know from the comics. With this one, when Spidey goes evil and gets the cocky rage vulgarity flowing as he trys and kills, that may be his gateway into his own. Thats how I feel anyway.

Some good points you made Tom, but in the end I feel your views are a tid bit skewed when it comes to stories such as these. Can’t forget Raimi made these films like Soap Operas. One big drama….

  • 19. Eric replies at 31st May 2006, 9:51 pm :

I don’t get what’s so wrong with Kirsten as MJ either. She’s a talented actress and I think plays her very well. and you guys keep arguing about how the Spider-Man movies are about a girl or Spidey. the truth is it’s not entirely up to the directors and writers. I mean, they can skew the plot a little but overall it should follow the comics and how Stan Lee envisioned it and I think the last thing he wants to do is kill off Peter’s love interest.

Gwen could very well appear in the next movie it would definately cause conflict between her and MJ (assuming they DON’T kill her off) and conflict is huge in movies.

As much as I don’t want to see MJ go.. it would be a hell of a surprise if they did kill her off. it would make absolutely no sense according to the comics but everyone likes surprises.

I doubt they would kill her off though because how weird would it be if she died after love conquered all at the end of the last movie.

Plus it would get kinda old if the movie was ALL about Peter. I mean, what’s the point of a character that doesn’t interact with other characters? love included.

  • 20. Tom replies at 31st May 2006, 10:48 pm :

We were arguing? I thought we were having a pretty relaxed discussion.

I’ll put it this way about the Spider-Man movies: say you don’t care about the comics, and a fair ammount of people don’t, the movies have still been pretty fucking boring. You can count on the action scenes on one hand (and that doesn’t mean it has to be wall to wall action), and the ‘character developement’ usually involves somebody making a boring ass speech or our ‘hero’ getting asked if he wants some chocolate fucking cake. And I cring whenever wood plank Maguire and Snaggletooth Dunst are in a scene together.

You guys like the movies, I think they suck donkey dick. Raimi did not think the plot through, and if the shit he said about the character in the first two movies was true (’she’s the love of my life, blah blah blah, chocolate cake, blah blah’) then why’s he bringing in Gwen? Especially after mishandling Mary Jane by making her a Gwen/MJ combination, and having her show up first.

  • 21. Lizardfreak replies at 31st May 2006, 11:06 pm :

Okay Tom, we may not see eye to eye on the Spider-Man films, I love them and you think they suck donkey dick. But I have to say, you brought up a very valid point about how Mary Jane was mixed with Gwen Satcy for the movies, toning down MJ’s party side. And now they bring in Gwen and I was confused about that. I think they felt the mix wasn’t good and Dunst failed to act as a mix of both MJ and Gwen, Dunst didn’t put shit into the character Raimi and the writers wanted.

I think they brought in Gwen to balance out a failed expierment with the MJ character. Maybe Gwen will be the party girl in this one, even though she wasn’t in the comic book. But that will be okay, the transfer will be nice. They could also keep Gwen Stacy like the Gewn Stacy in the books, and that would be fine as well.

Personally I want him to be drunk. I want him to wake after a night of drunkenly fighting crime having no recollection of having done anything and then when he sees the news reports of iron mans escapades he actually sets out to stop Iron Man. He hates this fucking show off making the front pages and he is consumed with jealousy. So he decides to becom,e iron mans nemesis. But before he can do he thinks I will just have alittle drink……..he gets blind drunk turns into iron man and goes out again and stops muggings. Then when he wakes up and he is even more angry when he sees all the good this iron man fucker is doing. He is his own nemesis! there is an original take. Even have him run into phone booths as a nod to superman but instead of changing into iron man he defecates in it.

  • 23. Pineapplehead replies at 1st June 2006, 1:56 pm :

Im the comics I have read, MJ was a Godess. We’re talking average joe going out with a supermodel (which she pretty much was).

‘Tiger - you just hit the jackpot’.

Raimi’s MJ wasn’t like that at all and although I didn’t mind her as an emotional foundation for Peter, having Gwen come in at this point would seem weird unless, as Lizardfreak says - Gwen is the knockout and their roles have a complete inversion.

  • 24. Eric replies at 1st June 2006, 7:27 pm :

I agree that they should have more action in the movies I mean…that’s always the best part. But there are more to movies than just action. go see ultimate fighting if you wanna see people pound on each other non-stop.

Maybe you’re just not the type of person who likes characters interact besides fighting and shit. But what’s the point of characters other than Peter and some villain being in the movie if they’re not gonna interact in some way? Movies are a way to bring you from your shitty ass reality to some fantasy that you could never just imagine. (not to go all psychotherapy on you) and seeing characters interact in different ways is what people enjoy. Love is popular…maybe not to you…but to the guys and gals who watch the spidey movies and if they were successful before, the directors are going to keep it where it is as far as developing characters go.

Bringing in Gwen would spice it up and Tom made me think about it…I’m getting a little fed up with MJ as well. It’s time to bring in somebody new to spice up Peter’s life.

But I dunno why you’re sitting there telling us hard-core spidey fans how much the movies suck cuz we’ll go see the movies regardless of how much you hate them Tom.

You know what. I’ve just about had enough of fat people discriminating against healthy people. You have no idea the amount of suffering our people go through. Running, weights, situps, costly hair products. I haven’t had a burger in 2 years! For you to demean our hard work just so you can feel better about yourself is disgusting and it shouldn’t be tolerated. Stop grazing in the field of ignorance and learn that healthy people are people too.

BTW. F*** anyone who thinks its wrong to point out the physical changes of someone who’s job is to be seen. Noticing 20lbs on a skinny girl is the same thing as noticing Uncle Jesse’s hair on Tom Hanks.

I think that this is Gwen’s moment to shine like she so rightfully deserved. Mary Jane has become a horror in the films she’s turned trampy and skanky dumping Flash for Harry, Harry for Peter, Peter for John Jameson, John Jameson for Peter leaving John at the alter which is so f***ing rude to his family who dished out lots of money just so she can run around in her dress. Peter needs a lady not a tramp. I’m thinking Gwen should take Mary Jane’s place she could be introduced as a friend of MJ’s and then when MJ dies Gwen and Peter will be sad. If Gwendy is killed in this film it will mean nothing she was alive for 91 issues befores she was killed if she dies in this one she will have only been alive for LESS THAN 90 MINUTES!!! Movie Mary Jane as somewhat Gwen Stacy-esque seeing as she was attracted to Peter for no clear reason.

  • 28. Lizardfreak replies at 4th June 2006, 3:33 pm :

I don’t care if Gwen is fat, if her coming in justifys MJ’s death then who gives a shit. And so far the only the problem I have with this film is Sandman. Sometimes I think it is cool having him in, other times I think he will look like a cheesy pile of shit.Hopefully Raimi has the Sandman transer from comic book to the screen down pat, otherwise this character could ruin the film.

If MJ does die, I want to see Spider-Man in a symbiotic rage of anger and ego and crush her skull bewtween his hands. Kind of like a pimple being popped and her brains splatter everywhere. What I don’t want to see is Sandman suffocating her in a blanket sand or some cheesy shit. Death by Spideys hands or her falling off the building would be excellent.

  • 29. Eric replies at 5th June 2006, 1:42 pm :

I totally agree with that Lizardfreak. It would totally suck balls if she ended up dying in some lame-ass way. If you’re gonna kill off a character that’s already been in two movies you may as well do it in the bloodiest, goriest way possible. one that will shock and horrify the audience because that makes a good movie.

Also I think Gwen will do just fine taking MJ’s place I mean..she’s a lot more interesting… even if MJ’s body looks like a freakin supermodel Gwen will be able to portray her character and keep it entertaining alot more than MJ did cuz watching her these days makes me yawn.
