Johnny Depp in INXS Movie?

For a few years, INXS was arguably the 2nd biggest band in the world (U2 was really rolling at the time). The suicide of frontman Michael Hutchence was a true tragedy for the music world (even though it’s nice having a Canadian as the lead singer now).

There is a project in the works to do a movie on the life of Hutchence, and Johnny Depp’s name is being thrown around as the top of the list candidate for the role. The good folks over at JoBlo give us this:

Producers are further looking to round out the cast with an ambitious list of names that include Eric Bana, Sienna Miller, Naomi Watts, Eva Green, Patsy Kensit, Hayden Christensen, Stephen Rea, Joss Ackland, Rachel Griffiths, and Julie Walters. The film, which has a working title of SLIDE AWAY (references an INXS-U2 duet) is under director Nick Egan, who directed a lot of INXS’s more popular videos, and contrary to the rumor that has recently surfaced, Hutchence’s father is not upset about the film and is cooperating with the production through Hutchence’s Trust.

I don’t know why I get so fascinated by Rock bios. Maybe it’s the tragedy of them… maybe it’s just that they remind me that these gods amongst men are indeed just screwed up humans too… maybe it’s the hot chicks.

Give me a biopic on the late Stevie Ray Vaughn or gutarist Randy Rhodes. Someone who deserves to be immortalized on film, y’know. Yes, I loved INXS, don’t get me wrong, but I just don’t see this as a film worth seeing.

They want Johnny Depp; I think if they really have to…Paul Mercerio of ‘Strictly Ballroom”. He’s not a big name, but he’s better to play Hutchencince. When I think Depp as a rock n roller I think of either his Pirates role or Tom Petty’s video ‘Into The Great Wide Open’.

Hutchencince was an alright actor for his one gig I know of- the Roger Corman directed, Fox backed “Frankenstien Unbound” (1990) where Hutchencince played Lord Byron. Bridet Fonda played Mary Shelly.

Agree that Stevie Ray and Randy were superior musically, but Hutchence’s life story will translate better for a feature film. Especially the ending (suicide or ummm…acccident?) I’m really curious how they handle that one.

I thought that Johnny Depp was going to be in the film adaptation of that Motley Crue book called ” The Dirt”

I may be thinking of someone else

actually, i can’t see johnny depp in this role for some reason. i *love* johnny depp and think he’s really talented but i just don’t see it. one actor i had always thought would do well at least visually is Valery Nikolaev from “The Saint”. He reminds me very much of Hutchence in his “Never Tear Us Apart” era days.

Michael Hutchence to me is the greatest singer ever besides Elvis Presley. I cannot wait to see the movie. I just hope they do his whole life and not the last few years. It would make it a more interesting movie to see where he started and where he ended. Johnny Depp would play a great Michael because he is a fantastic actor and extremely sexy and good looking, but of course there is only one Michael Hutchence.

Hey, yeah I do agree there is only one Michael Hutchence and I think he defiantly deserves to be immortalised on film. Also it might help to clear up all these stories about him that seem to keep creeping up.It would be great if Bono could appear in it because they were mates and at the time they were both counterparts to each other. Also they had a conversation together about suicide just before he died and I guess that helped fuel the whole ‚Äúaccident‚Äù theory. Bono made it through and Michael didn’t which i find so sad. Think of how great of a star Michael would be now if he made it through. Also with the entire “Rockstar Inxs” thing it would be really great to help to show that Michael hasnt just been replaced because there is only one Michael and the real Inxs has gone with him. but he will be forever immortalised in his music, video and hopefullly movie.
His life story would be an excellent choice for immortalisation but if they do make the movie it has to stay true to his life. I prefer they don’t make it at all if they are going to change details of his life just to dramatise it! As for Jonny as the lead role, he is a good choice because that will get allot of peoples attention and publicity but otherwise I don‚Äôt think he is the best possible person. It would be good if we could keep the actor Aussie. I guess we will see how good of an Aussie Jonny will make in his new movie Shantaram.

Let’s not jump to conclusions about Stevie Ray Vaugh and Randy Rhodes being “superior” musicians to Michael Hutchence. Michael Hutchence wasn’t just an amazing and charismatic front man, he was also quite brilliant. He who wrote almost every song on all of the INXS albums over their 20 year career. This is not something that should be overlooked because he didn’t play a guitar.

As for Johnny Depp in the lead of a Michael Hutchence biopic, I’m all for it. Perhaps you don’t realize that Johnny Depp and Michael Hutchence were very good friends for a number of years. With that in mind, I believe the portrayal would be more accurate. Depp wouldn’t have to take anyone’s word for who Michael was or how he behaved. He was actually around during many of the events that happened in Michael’s life.

The question is… who will play Johnny Depp in the Michael Hutchence movie? Rhett Hutchence?

I have read every book on Michael Hutchence he lived a very rich and colourful life. It would be great on film although a little shocking to his older family. Let’s face it every pop star-rock star lives that kind of lifestyle you just don’t hear about all what they get up too. Personally I don’t think Johnney Depps the right choice I think they should get a know body for this one with striking looks that match Michael. Same with Paula but we do need her well educated english accent to be believeable. Not forgeting old Bob we need a proper Irish accent not a fake Hollywood one. I hope they make a true picture warts and all and don’t make Paula out to be his downfall Michael done that on his own.

    MICHAEL, SIEMPRE TE AMARE

Johnny would be good! i can;t wait to see it and know a lot of people who would from all over the world! i think michael’s story shoule be told and inform people who still think he died at the hands of his own sexual act! please right this wrong!

I think a biopic about the life of Michael Hutchence is a wonderful idea. He lived a very wild and fast-paced life, and nearing the end of his life there were many mysteries his mental health and, what happened on the morning of November 22nd 1997. If I had to pick anyone to play him it would either be Eric Bana, if you compare a picture of him and Michael you can definitely see some resemblance. Or Brendon Fraser who has some resembling facial features.

Of course we need to clear up how he died, a lot of people still think he died at the hands of a sexual act which was what Paula believed because she didn’t want to own up to the fact that he couldn’t take it anymore and he wanted out.

I think I should play Michael. I find it funny how some people can be so judgmental about other people’s personal lives. Like God gave them perfect little lives of their own. LOL : - )

It doesn’t matter who portrays him. What matters is that his achievements in this world are.
