X-Files sequel is alive
In true conspiracy theory style, it appears that the treatment for the next X-Files series is being held back from the public for reasons we don’t altogether know. Perhaps it’s the FBI? From Moviehole:
Frank Spotnitz, co-executive producer of the hit series, tells SCI FI Wire that a second feature film based on the television series is still in the works. “My deal has been done—and I’m not exaggerating—for a year and a half”. He adds, “There are other deals, and you can guess who the people are [who are] involved, and I don’t know why they’re taking so long. It’s very frustrating to me. I hoped the movie would be done now.” …
…These are things that happen between lawyers, and I’m not privy to it because it’s not my deal. But I know [stars] David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson] want to do it. I know Chris wants to do it. I don’t know where the holdup is. But I hope it happens. I remain optimistic it will happen. If you’d asked me a year ago, I never would have believed it still wouldn’t be in the works at this point.”
So there’s still a desire to get it underway, but what’s the hold up? People asking for too much money? Perhaps people not even wanting to be in the story anymore? Strange since Duchovny has voiced his positives on it and says everyone is keen, and neither of the actors careers has taken off since. Why can’t they just get it done?

Most likely reason is that Fox commissioned audience surveys to gauge possible interest by the public and found that interest in another X-Files movie was extremely low. Additionally, the script, while the actors and producers may love it, might not have rated too highly either in interest by the public for it, Fox determined.

anyone remember the allusion to the oklahoma city bombing in the first movie? the scene was practically lifted off tv…
maybe the script taps into some of our fears of terrorism. maybe it taps into some facet of our current society that the executives in charge KNOW it will go over well and hit a nerve, but yet they’re intelligent enough to know it’s not time for that.
plus.. in the final episode of the series, mulder is captured and arrested while breaking into mount weather, where he learns the exact date the alien invasion is about to begin. that’s why they were going to put him onto tribunal… that’s why skinner broke him out and he and scully rode off into the sunset alone and frightened.
i havent seen that episode since it aired. i wonder what that date was for the invasion. it would be really wild if they waited to release the movie until right before that date.
i WANT this movie to be made.

First of all, the script supposedly does not take place after the events of the series. And, secondly, it doesn’t even deal with aliens. It’s supposedly a “monster of the week” storyline. So the events take place, I don’t know, sometime in the past?
Maybe the SCRIPT that Chris Carter wants to do is the problem here.
I believe they should go back to the alien invasion thing — do it like a Tom Clancy thriller but with aliens, and a lot more FX pieces. Plot it out carefully so that the movie takes place after the events of the series finale, and at the same time, it feels like a direct sequel to the events of the first movie. I think this could be done with good writing/plotting.
As for how to deal with Mulder and Scully being no longer with the FBI (at the end of the series): This is easy. Just have Mulder and Scully back at the FBI for the movie. Then, over the course of the movie’s plot, it’s explained through dialogue that they had been expelled from the FBI, were fugitives for a long while, and how they were put back into the FBI. The very likely answer is that a mysterious benefactor did this for them, and this benefactor could be tied in with the central plot that’s unfolding in the movie.

Yeah I think going the “oh yeah by the way all this stuff while we were away and now we’re back in the FBI” route would be pretty lazy and stupid from a writing standpoint. The film needs to be about what happened as well as whatever evil plot can be cooked up.
This movie really needs to happen. Not only is it one of the few sequels that really seems needed to me but the series is probably the best thing that most of the people involved will ever do.

the date was 2012 i believe and NO we do not want to wait that long jeeze…i think it should deffinatly pick up from after the last episode.. and i want vince Gilligan to write it
