Infernal Affairs Is Back On Miramax’s Release Schedule

infernalposter.jpgRight. Now that Miramax has finally gone ahead and released Hero and a butchered version of Shaolin Soccer - the uncut, Cantonese version on the North American DVD apparently has faulty and missing subtitles, by the way - the discerning, Miramax hating Asian film fan was just getting all primed up to go on a rant about how they’re currently burying the brilliant crime-thriller Infernal Affairs, which is now so old that it’s a full fledged trilogy in Asia. But wait! Has the advance buzz and good early box office on Hero finally convinced Miramax to open up the vault? Have they finally realized that any box office revenue is more than the big ol’ zero they draw while leaving this films in the vault? Maybe so.

After being delayed and finally dropped from the release schedule entirely Infernal Affairs is back on the radar at Miramax, and surprisingly they’re not even waiting for the Scorsese remake to wrap up to capitalize on the marketing punch of that film. According to Monkey Peaches Infernal Affairs is currently slated for a September 17th release here in North America. They even went and made their own poster for it. Look, there it is.

Guess I’ll have to find a new film to rant about until they get around to announcing the latest delay or re-edit of this one. Maybe Tears of the Black Tiger. Yes, that’s it. Hurry up and release Tears of the Black Tiger, you jerks!

It’s about time that Miramax started treating these movies with respect. I hope I’m not speaking too soon…

Is this a wide release or limited?

  2. Bubba says:

No word yet on the scope of the release, whether it’ll be cut or whether it’ll be released in the original language. I’ll relay anything I hear …

  3. Douglas Reinhardt says:

the trailer for it was on the print of “hero” that i saw.

  4. Bubba says:

Serious? First I’ve heard of that anywhere … wasn’t running before Here here. What did you think? Good trailer? Bad trailer? PLEASE say the dialogue wasn’t dubbed …

  5. Michael Wells says:

The whole trilogy is playing at the New York Film Festival in early October. So I doubt they’re releasing it before then. Probably right after the fest, a common marketing synergy tactic of “specialty” distributors here in NYC.
